J Robinson and the Delbert Newhouse film

In the summer of 1952, this country bore witness to several mysterious sightings of apparently aerial phenomena. Within this mix stands the Delbert Newhouse film of several glowing orbs, or "disc shaped" objects, travelling at apparently high speed off to the west.

The film is available for viewing from several sources in UFO publications world-wide, and has been for many years. One well known source is the government assisted film Unidentified Flying Objects, as this film runs the "Newhouse film" over and over.

A seperate witness to this case exits, and if you have never read the one page blog entry of JRobinson which can be found in my "Helpful Links" link to the right, then I humbly beseach each of you to click on it and read his story.

His "credentials" seem very high, and his sighting does indeed appear be related to the famous Tremonton, Utah case. Seeing it, and describing it from another angle helps to add perspective on the distances we are talking about, and speed of objects as well. Please read his story, and add it to your library of facts.

The days of SAGE are remote history. Their windowless cube-shaped buildings are abandoned or the stuff of tourism. Though the monitoring system which seemed so important in its time appears to be no longer, it has, in actuality, only ascended to its “higher” self.

By 1949, one expert in particular envisioned a team of airborne cameras, which would scout for UFO activity on a 24 hour basis. This expert was Joseph Kaplan. He called this program Detection, Surveillance, and Protection (DSP). It was a vision far ahead of its time, but he knew it was possible. Today we do have a team of satellite “watchmen”, and the program is indeed known as DSP, yet this now stands for Defense Support Program, and is supposedly only there to monitor for ICBM launches.

The military also has a team of super advanced monitoring and communications satellites that communicate via UHF with MAJOR Command activities, and Naval Groups. These satellites are (of all things) known as UFO satellites. The UFO here is supposed to refer to UHF Follow On., since they are the replacements for the aging MILSAT network. They could have picked anything as a title, but they chose UFO.

Although certain UFO historical writings mention the stereo camera experiments done during projects GRUDGE and BLUEBOOK, they are usually referred to as failures. It has been thought that these systems proved unreliable and were abandoned. This could not have been more incorrect, as the early surveillance programs, such as HEXAGON and CORONA (1) used updated forms of these very systems. Obviously, then, they were successes, not failures. Since these early “failures” came as a result of the “Flying Saucer”/UFO problem, why would we then think that the later programs had nothing to do with these same “problems?”

In the earlier days of Air Defense it was the Army who pieced together a point defense system, first known as AJAX/NIKE, which were later abandoned -as they each became outdated.

The position they took -declaring these systems to be useless and outdated- meant that we had no belief that the Soviets would launch any type of low-level attack on the continent of the United States. Since this was the case, only far sighted monitoring would be necessary, in addition to the SAC policy of First Strike, with low flying, high speed bombers. Over time, now declassified documents clearly show us how the Soviets themselves, obviously aware of our plans, began to put more, and more emphasis on shorter range, point defense systems. (2)
This put our plans at risk, that is, the B2 Stealth Bomber program, which was designed to fly at low levels, penetrating Soviet air space for their deep targets. Would this extremely expensive program prove to be a waste?

In our own country, we have seen many incidences which seem to be warning us that it was wrong to abandon our shorter range detection systems. We have only to revisit the Phoenix, Arizona incident to see this is so. There is no doubt something was tracked, and seen over our airspace, and other sightings would seem to indicate the same problem exists elsewhere. Yet we were informed, by experts, that there was no need for such systems, and so they were abandoned.

Maybe it is time to revisit this policy, and rethink our position in this matter?

All UFOs a Massive Hoax?

Currently on the UFO Iconoclast(s) Blog the idea of the whole UFO story being some type of hoax was brought up by Rich, as per my comments surrounding the coincidence of Adamski’s “crafts”, or identical ones, possibly being witnessed by others.

This theory cuts to the heart of one of the reasons I am interested in this subject.

For instance, many comments have been proffered by interested parties that the UFOs have always been sightings of man-made craft; that these objects have been actually secret experimental craft.

A problem with this scenario rests with the thought that this would have to mean that there is some sort of conspiracy to convince the people at large that we are being invaded by an “alien power”.

Air Force documents have demonstrated many times that many officials were of the opinion that we are NOT, and never have been, seeing evidence of some highly advanced technology from an “alien power.” This exact terminology was used in the paperwork generated by the Vandalia Airport sightings of March, 1950. In fact it was said that all sightings were misidentifications.

This can’t be the truth, though, based on many sightings by credible witnesses “of incredible things,” many of which do indeed seem to imply the existence of some other group, who have highly advanced technology at their disposal. This is why the ET hypothesis can not be ruled out.

If this was all a hoax, perpetrated by the government, wouldn’t they be the first to try and fan the flames…instead of the other way around?

That’s part of the problem.

A quick Thanks and Acknowledgement re the Spaceman Photo

I am working on an article to post on pixel "artifacts" on poor quality, or over copied digital photos.

I have been very busy and it has left very little time to update this blog. This is just a quick thank-you to those who recognized the poor quality of the so-called spaceman photo I analyzed in a previous posting. Please read the comment section in that article for details.

The bottom line is that there does not appear to be lettering, and the "handle" appears to be the forearm of the individual.

The "cord" is still there, though.

A Snapshot: 1942 to 1953

Over the years much evidence has been gathered of visitation of unknown objects, and we can all read the files for ourselves. In them it appears that certain of these reported objects and their flight characteristics defy explanation. Taking a snapshot of events between 1942 and 1953, this writer will entertain certain aspects about them to see how they tend to draw us away from, or push us toward the ET hypothesis. Utilizing the search engine on this page, you can type in dates or keywords, such as, for instance "Los Angeles", and interlink with this blog, and other blogs, and other weblinks as well, in order to augment the data pertaining to the items of your interest.

In 1942, an unknown object drew attention to itself over Los Angeles. Any targeting balloon would certainly have been damaged by the barrage of anti-aircraft shelling (evident in the known and famous photograph) but there is no evidence anything was ever recovered in this case. Even so, there is just no other simple explanation one could provide for what "it" actually was.

During the Second World War numerous accounts of luminous orbs were reported by air crews. There were also rockets or missile like objects noted in the records. The possibility of “V” rockets being tested was of interest for Army Intelligence, yet even today there is no strong consensus for an explanation for the entire episode. These objects have been labeled: "ghost rockets."

After the war, most notably in 1947, strange flying objects were reportedly seen all across the United States. The official investigations later revealed that these saucer incidents were actually occurring globally. Included within the body of this evidence are sightings of objects impacting, or giving the appearance of heading toward impact with the earth. Many of these impacts are assumed to be of meteoric origin, but the evidence to support this is, sadly, lacking in several cases. Those incidents which provided evidence of the meteorite explanation from the beginning do so today. There is no doubt about their make-up and origin. The reverse of this is also true. Certain cases which were lacking proof of meteoric origin back then are still missing this confirming evidence today. The story of a crashed “disc” north of Roswell, N.M. falls within the time frame of these other reported impacts of unknowns.

In late 1949 a story began to surface providing details of a flying saucer crash, and its recovery, which included its occupants. At first the area of the crash was reported to be in Mexico, but later the impact zone became New Mexico. Other stories appeared, and other locations were given by those chiming in over the years, adding their weight to the crashed saucer inventory. Although these tales are fanciful, they play an important role in the over-all flying saucer historical record.

In 1950 a famous Meteor Detonation occurred over Kentucky, known today as the Murray Meteor. There also happens to be a record of something large actually impacting in a swamp, in Tennessee, in connection with the Murray Detonation. One rarely hears of this other impact though.

In 1951 objects shaped like giant flying wings were witnessed by both civilians and military pilots. (at least one report goes back to 1949)

In 1952 we had the famous Washington, D.C. flyovers which prompted an Air Force Press Conference on Flying Saucers. The famous sighting of a large humanoid associated with a downed meteor erupted on the scene at this time, as well.

Moving from 1952, to 1953 we see in the archived UFO Program reports about interceptors being vectored toward Flying Objects (FLYOBS). Many of these remained Unknown Flying Objects (UFOBs). Many of these objects exited straight up to avoid interception. In all cases of Ground Control Intercept, the objects were evasive. They did not act as a "friendly", that is to say they never even bothered with step one of protocol which would have been to establish radio contact. Evasive is the only word which actually describes the actions of these objects. The objects behaved as our Air Force/National Security Agency planes did when they were getting caught over the border in the USSR.

In summary it can be said that many question still loom large over this mystery. Two questions which always seem to elude investigators’ ability to answer them are: where are they arriving from, and where are they going to? Although the saucer crash stories seem questionable to many, and so are discarded out of hand, all of these other verified-by-the-documentation encounters with unknown objects don’t do anything to draw us away from the ET hypothesis, because no one can answer the where to/where from question.

Although I've taken flak for continuing to talk about the October 12, 1947 Mexico incident, it has never been my intention to make it seem to any of the respectable Roswell researchers that their Roswell crash information is incorrect, or that the Roswell crash never happened.

It should be obvious to any of those who are interested in the Roswell crash story that it already enjoys the efforts of several excellent investigators, digging into its treasure stores. Since I am just a regular guy interested in the case I chose to focus on the Mexico story. I certainly am not interested in notoriety.

I absolutely do believe that a few of the witnesses in the Roswell saga are being truthful, and that indeed something strange impacted, and/or exploded north of Roswell.

I have also heard, from at least one other witness, statements to the effect that it impacted us in ways we haven't yet covered--openly--and I am not referring to the body parts issue. I don't lay the Roswell tale in the lap of "UFO Mavens" as some put it...especially because of witnesses like Ben Fulford, and Jesse Marcell, Jr. They, not any of the "UFO Mavens" tell us that something indeed occurred that fateful day.

But, admittedly, the thing that has always been lacking in the Roswell story is the official documentation created at the time of the incident. An example of this would be stories we've heard regarding radar picking up an object flitting about the New Mexico skies before crashing, or exploding. Where is this data?

With the Mexico impact, we have several, official "clear" messages, created at the time, which prove something occcurred. We also have the eyewitnesses who saw the object flying from north to south, and exploding somewhere across the boarder. We also have several, from around the country, who witnessed strange missile-like objects flying from north to south (or east to west)...in Ohio, and Canada for instance, in the days before and after the impact.

We also have a curious coincidence of SECDEF Forrestal meeting with Mexican military cadets from 12:00 to 12:30 in his office the next day. While it could be said that this meeting could have been arranged long before, and just happens to coincide with it, the fact that it occurred the following day is interesting to me.

We also have the direct mentioning of Mexico in a trail of data that spans for several years afterwards, and information regarding a crash began to "leak" out, as per Wilkie Conner's Spacewarp article, less than two years later (October 1949). This sounds about right to me.

We don't have this type of documentation with the Roswell story, at least not anything that directly links it to the incident. We mostly have the witnesses, and their memories....which I don't have a problem with, since the memories related at times before they could have been inter-contaminated can be cross checked with each other to verify accuracy of detail.

Since it doesn't appear that there is any modern, surviving evidence that the Mexico impact was indeed a meteorite, then it not only keeps it within the "Unknown" contraints, it opens the door for other impacts being questioned. This means it IS possible that Roswell was not the only such incident.

The "why" question is so insignificant at this point, in my opinion, since it could be any number of things we haven't even considered, that I don't even bother with it. That would have to wait until more specific data is aquired.

MJ-12 Like Groups

The idea of a consolidated agency or group that controls the "real" UFO material is not new. It has been bantered about for years. It is the obvious avenue of thought after one ponders this subject for awhile. There have been certain moments where the lid seemed to crack open slightly, but never truly "open." The number 12 is not new either, as we see in the National Security Council. In The Puzzle Palace* one may read, on page 69, paragraph 2:

Titled "Communications Intelligence," NSCID No. 9 formally established the USCIB "to effect the authorative coordination of Communications Intelligence activities of the Government" and "to advise the Director of Central Intelligence in those matters in the field of Communications Intelligence for which he is responsible." But the directive also stated that unanimous agreement of all twelve members (two from each agency) was required for decisions and that the board must keep hands off the internal workings of member COMINT agencies. Thus, the USCIB was nearly impotent from birth.

This relates to the Armed Forces Security Agency, and its beginnings. The Agency itself began as a military agency, but in 1952, it became the NSA.

One other instance of even more interest should be the Stone Board, and its beginnings. All throughout the days of the likes of Donald Keyhoe, the "Estimate of the Situation" is mentioned. Ruppelt also mentions it. It was supposed to be a report on the state of the Flying Disc phenomenon, and given a Top Secret classification. It is said that the Chief of Staff either put it away in a safe, or had it burned. In that light, I put forth this quote, also from Mr. Bamford's book*: Page 70; Para 5

In August of 1948, Secretary of Defense James V. Forrestal finally created a board, under the chairmanship of Rear Admiral Earl Everett Stone, then director of Naval Communications, to study the COMINT situation within the defense establishment and recommend a solution. Composed of representatives of all military interests in the COMINT family, the Stone Board went round and round for several months, but wound up submitting a divided report--the Navy and Air Force both opposed to consolidation, the Army advocating it with the exception of interception and decentralized field processing stations. Unhappy with the results, Forrestal simply locked the report in a safe and hoped the problemn would go away.

I think it interesting how closely they exist in time (August 1948), and in handling. One can only wonder.

Experts and their "Facts"

At some point in the nineteen fifties Air Force HQ began referring to itself in the UFOB documents as AFCIN. We know from some of these documents that AFCIN stood for Air Force Chief of Staff, Intelligence. Thats a fact.

About a year ago I left a comment on Kevin Randle's blog where I used the phrase AFCIN. I referred to it as Air Force Combat Intelligence, HQ. In a short time someone else, who bravely posted their comment under the name "b", followed up on my comment claiming that AFCIN didn't stand for "...some Combat Intelligence HQ." In fact, this "b" said neither AFCIN, nor AFNIN, stood for anything at all. This "b" claimed that while he, or she, was in the Air Force, AFCIN was simply a name on the Air Force letterhead.

Dr. Randle said nothing at all.

It may not seem important to you, but it nagged at me for some time before I finally let it go. But now, I think I should at least put forward the truth of the matter, as I see it, so we can all see just how phony some of the experts really are.

This topic first emerged for me when the Moondust information was in its early stages of discussion. Though referred to by others before, it was released in one of the documents attained by Clifford Stone, relating to Moondust. The term utilized was: AFCIN Intelligence Team personnel.

For years I struggled with the identity of this group, as no one else seemed to have anything to say about them. I asked alot of people, and got alot of shrugs. No one seemed sure of its exact meaning, other than the obvious; that it was an Air Force unit of some kind.

Once I had studied the so-called Bluebook documents I began to see patterns that put it into perspective. Without a doubt both AFCIN and AFNIN did indeed stand for something. Even before I read the straight forward explanation of it, I knew it meant something, because in that time period "IN" stood for Intelligence. One can see this in terms such as Office of Intelligence (OIN). One can also see that both CIN and NIN were seperate and distinct groups which recieved UFO reports.

AF usually stands for Air Force, but has also stood for Armed Forces. One can see this in the Armed Forces Security Agency (AFSA), the predicessor of the NSA.

For a time I wondered whether CIN was short for Cincinnati, but a series of 1959, and 1960 era documents spelled the meaning out for us: Chief of Staff, Intelligence.

So why did this "b" character try so hard to make readers of Dr. Randle's blog believe there was nothing to the term? Only he/she, and also maybe Dr. Randle as well, can say for sure. Whatever the reasoning behind it, it goes to show you that it is critically important to do your homework, especially as regards the UFOB story. Anybody can claim to be an expert, in order to steer you away from something.
OK, so there you have it. Not very crucial information, I guess, but it lays out some important points to remember when asking "experts" questions.

Either a meteor, another stray rocket, or some unkown aerocraft did impact on October 12, 1947.

The time was most likely 9:30 AM, though it is also reported in the documents as 9:30 PM.

In this piece, I draw heavily upon James V. Forrestal's published diaries, Edited by Walter Millis (cr1951 new york herald tribune inc.). It provides for a unique, and accurate snapshot, atmospherically speaking, of the time period. An interesting side note I discovered deals with a helpful picture of Admiral Hillenkoetter. Even though he is hardly mentioned in the diaries, one may glimpse his position:

"26 September 1947
First meeting of the National Security Council. Present: Royall, Sullivan, Symington, Hillenkoetter, Hill, Souers, Lovett and myself [in addition to the President...Admiral Hillenkoetter then presented a thumbnail review of the world situation in the order of priority of importance."

Let me note, if you will, that the mood at this moment of time was intensely anti communist, fear driven, mostly whipped up by the FBI. They helped create a constant panic...a scrambling for control of world resources...namely Arabian Oil...and this is quite evident in the words recorded in their times.

On october 6, Forrestal notes:(page 323)

"6 October 1947
...Hannegan brought up the question of Palestine. He said many people who had contributed to the Democratic campaign fund in 1944 were pressing hard for assurances from the administration of difinitive support for the Jewish position in Palestine."

So, Communism, and Palestine are two big issues they are dealing with at this time.
Mr. Millis notes this:(also on page 323)

"[there is much about Palestine in the later pages of the diary. In evaluating Forrestal's position, it must not be forgotten that he had a very immediate sense of official responsibilty in the matter. Three days after this Cabinet lunch he appeared before the Senate Committee on Small Business. At a time when American small busineessmen were clamoring for steel, the administration had licensed the export of twenty thousand tons to build a pipeline in Saudi Arabia, and the committee had questioned the decision.]"

For the entry of October 9, he writes of his response to the question:

"9 October 1947 I took the position that because of the rapid depletion of American oil reserves and an equally rapidly rising curve of consumption we would have to develop resources outside the country. The greatest field of untapped oil in the world is in the Middle East..."

At the time, between 1947 and 1950, we had at the very least up to three War Plans. NSC 30 is credited, by the NSA, as being the impetus for the energy behind the movements, and also our Arab Oil gathering needs are behind the Plans. I see this especially with War Plan: HalfMoon, of 1948, but also in the War preparations fever over all.

On page 326 of the diaries, Millis notes:

"Foreign policy, of course, was always with them. An ominous new development came on October 5 [1947], when Moscow with considerable fanfare announced the creation of a Communist Information Bureau to coordinate the activites of International Communism in the satellite countries, in France, italy and elsewhere."

With this development came the rise of extreme war mobilization efforts, and also, mainly spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, an ever expanding paranoia. Suddenly there was a civilian detainment program. Formerly classified, but recently released FBI documents deal with the finalizing of said efforts. They wanted to be able to detain, or even intern, civilians even thought to be subversive, in any way. There was immense pressure being exerted on the military agencies (their repective leaders) to get on the program, by the FBI.

In this time slot there is a previous unearthly impact event which occurred in July, but there is not really anything in Forrstal's diary about it. Actually that time period is "missing" from this publication with no explaination why. In October, that all changes, kinda. Because there seems to be confirmation of an event of importance occurring in Mexico. Here is what we know occurred from the Archives. These copies were retrieved from the "Footnote" galleries of Project: Blue Book.

There is one memo missing for now. I don't know why it isn't with the rest of them.

I will have to retrieve it from an old HDD myself...probably. It is a more detailed memo from General Homer about the incident. Though he plays it down, he reveals that the issue is still open, whatever "it" is. Except for that, here are the docs (some of these use to also be avalable via Project 1947's Ghost Rocket report)

Neither diary nor calender shows what he did that evening...but promptly next morning (between an appointment with the head of the Central Intelligence Agency and a ceremonial presentation of a sword to Eisenhower at the Netherlands Embassy) he saw Chairman Hargrave of the Munitions Board."

More on the Mexico Impact story

In case anyone is interested: I am working on an article to be published soon (day or two)updating the Mexico story. Since the documents were on my original blog, I will rehash the story again, and repost the docs.

Even though the Roswell story is well known, the Mexico story is the one with all the accompanying data, the type of data that is sorely missing in the Roswell saga.

There is more circumstancially avalable for a Mexico impact, than a New Mexican impact. The first leak of it occured in time, right when you would expect it to...on its own. That is, the incident occured late in 1947 (October), and withnin a year and a half, information is indeed leaking into the "press" about a crashed unknown craft, and occupants.

Looking through Scully's book Update

Scientists do not want to go to war with the Army over the issue. They have to get essential materials for research, and certain branches of the Department of Defense might find it difficult to find such essential materials for scientists who will not cooperate. Do they make themselves clear?

Another Interesting Photograph UPDATED

First of all, I admit to not being sure where I got my copy of the photo. It was acquired from someone's site, but I don't remember whose site it was. My thanks to the individuals responsible, and I hope to be able to properly credit them, as the copy in the BlueBook files is not so good.

This photograph, taken in 1952, had been written off by the investigators of the day. They figured it to be a reflection of internal lighting in the Coast Guard facility. This assumption never really sat well with me...at least not as a perfect explanation for what happened.

If it can be shown that the hazy images, seen at the left hand side in the same photograph, and that may be reflections of two soldiers, are indeed on the original, I think it would push it further toward a possible hoax.

I admit they raised some interesting questions, but I am not convinced by them.

One reason I feel this way is simply because that possibility could have been so easily checked. All they would have had to do was to simply duplicate the event. I don't know about you, but I have not seen any examples of them having tried this. Why not? It’s not as if it would have been expensive or time consuming.

The other complaint raised by them had to do with the fact that they could see no reflections in the "highly polished" cars parked outside the facility, and I have also heard this complaint by others.

As you can see with the copy I have posted here, I disagree with that conclusion. I feel that the objects were indeed reflected in the cars outside. The most telling of these reflections is the one on the trunk of the car, as you can see the entire hillside above the car reflected there, and the lights are there too.

There is an over-all ambiance that is pretty inclusive to all of the subjects in this shot. Whether that is due to the setting sun, or a bright light we can't see from our point of view, or the objects themselves I don't know. This wash out of light is one reason the autos in this picture aren't reflecting as one would expect. The same way the moon shots are washed out, overpowering the star light.

Maybe someone else has information I missed, that will straighten me out.

I too admit that without some kind of provenence, any further attempts at photo analysis is futile. Without a better copy, or an original, this particular photo investigation is "dead in the water."

Be that as it may, here are the three questions I raise regaring the current photo:

1 the cord looking object at the head, neck, and upper back area

2 The "letters" on the shirt, or other type of clothing.

3 The dark area that gives the impression that there might be an object such as a handle of some kind gripped in "his" hand

I will leave it at that, for now.

Its been a while since I first began my trek through the Blue Book material. I remember how surprised I was to find so many documents dealing with crashes and landings. I also came across some pretty intriguing information pertaining to an October, 1947 UFO crash, in Mexico.

So I decided to see what I could find out about a crash in Mexico by perusing historical material, abroad as well as from the Internet. I then went back through the Blue Book material again, with Mexico in mind, and began to find all sorts of tid bits about something landing, or crashing,in Mexico, that I had missed before. I later noticed that a couple of these stories had been published on Frank Warren's UFO Chronicles site.

I had mentioned it to Ryan Wood, early on, and he had agreed to look into it, as well. Months went by, and I brought it up during a phone call. I was curious as to whether or not he had also found information. He told me yes, he had some good information about it, and as a matter of fact it would be coming up in the next UFO Crash Conference. Of course I was interested to know what details may have emerged about the October 1947 incident.

[Added later: He did get another researcher there to talk about the May 1947 crash of a V2 rocket, in Mexico.]

The UFO case that ended up being discussed dealt with a completely different Mexico crash story...one that I think takes place in 1955. I have since heard some other researchers refer to this one as being a possible case of fraud, rather than an important case.

For my interests, though, it doesn't really matter. I don't know if it is a real case or not, all I know is that it is not the case with the paper trail. That one occurred on October 12, 1947.

It made me wonder just how many Mexico crashes there really were.

I continued my search, and came across even more information about a Mexico crash from a completely different source.

It happened while I was running down one of the many leads dealing with the word magic. On this particular occasion I had just clicked on a link to a page that had published a copy of Arthur Rapp's fanzine: "SpaceWarp". More than a week before the Wyandotte Echo, and Kansas City Star articles, of which the famous Aztec Crash information later emerged, a flash report, and articles, written by Wilkie Conners, had been published that could represent a monumental piece of saucer crash history.

There were follow up articles which in fact seemed to lead up to the Wyandotte Echo story published at least a week later. They were based on information from a source inside the military, and science, who had been aware of the Landing in Mexico by "Venusians". I know what you are thinking, but in those days, an inside source was a lot more trustorthy than it is today, in my opinion. Unlike today, with the many phony whistleblowers that seem to abound and such, back then the connections were more real. Inside sources were actual sources. There was more trust. In the case of Mr. Conner's articles, that particular source spoke of a crash in Mexico, on April 12, 1949.

One interesting thing about Conner's story is that all the facts pertaining to the craft and occupants are almost identical to those facts published in Scully's book, and which has become known as the Aztec Crash. Three different dates, two on the 12th, three different years...but all in Mexico.

Ok so...what do we have so far?

We have several memos in the Blue Book files which refer to an October 1947 crash, the last word of this being on the 24th. In graphs, and Tables, it is referenced as a meteor impact, though I have not seen any later backing up of this conclusion.

We have press articles published at the end of 1949, and beginning of 1950, which deal with a crash landing of a saucer in Mexico, April 12, 1949.

We have later stories trickling out over the years mentioning Mexico and a saucer crash landing.

We have later testimonies telling of a crash in 1948, in New Mexico, but the facts surrounding this story are pretty much those of the Wilkie Conner article.

We have the later 1955 crash on the border story, which is, I believe, the one talked about at that conference.

So what we can say for sure is they all have a tie to something happening in Mexico, between 1947, and reliably, 1950. The crash on the boarder story is too much like the October 1947 incident, as it took place on the Texas/Mexico border.

Aliens and Illness

In Well's story "War of the Worlds", the alien invaders from the Planet Mars are stopped in their tracks by the lowliest of Earth's creatures. Concurrently, in Crichton's "The Andromeda Strain" the reverse is true...that the "alien" is an extremely deadly virus.

William Bramley wrote http://www.amazon.com/Gods-Eden-William-Bramley/dp/0380718073 an historical investigatory work dealing the prospect that germ warfare, of a sort, has been used against the people of this planet for centuries.

The Bible seems to relate similar actions.

The issue was re-kindled when the "Majestic Documents" began to be investigated, as there is mention of an alien virus there, as well. Of course I realize that most discount all of the documents as being created as a red herring, but the information had an effect, none-the-less.

What of it?

Has anyone ever conducted an epidimological study regarding any of those who think they have had contact with Non Terrestrial Entities? For instance, did Betty, and or Barney Hill become severely ill a day or two after the event, and simply not think anything of it?

Did Travis Walton fall ill later, and not make a connection?

Has anyone seen any patterns along these lines?

I don't have the time I used to, like I did when I was immersing myself in the UFO records, and alien virus articles of different sorts abound on the Internet, but I think this angle of the abduction phenomena and sickness would be interesting to cover more indepth.

As If We Had a Plan.

Remember Chapter 13 of the Fire Control manual? Don't approach a landed "alien" craft. There's evidence for possible malevolence.

My own group of, no doubt severely misunderstood, "memories" suggests to me a mixed bag. There are a couple of Dreams, and memory mixes, portraying darkness, there is just no doubt about it! In addition to this there is the beginning of the experience via the Bahamas, where I clearly reacted as if I thought they were evil.

But there are other memories, and experiences, that would seem to point toward the angelic. More of a gentile overseer type of persona.

One strong "memory" I've always had was as a young boy dealing with being shown a polluted beach...not unlike what we are witnessing in the Gulf of Mexico right now, and being scolded by one of these "beings"...severely!!!...as if I had anything to do with it...especially at 5, or 6...whatever age I was...but it REALLY seemed that the being was serious...and seriously angry! I remember pleading..."what do you mean?...I didn't do anything!!"...etc.

I don't know. Sometimes I think I've got a handle on it, but most times I can only shrug. I read Strieber, and clicked when he said "cinnamon, and wet cardboard", sent him a thank You email, and went on with my life.

Then I have a rash of sightings which I report to the National UFO Reporting Center. These evolve into a series of sightings of silvery spheres...which always show up white, or black in my photographs. They also seem to be interested in the sudden escalation of persistant contrails...as they are seen, and photographed in, and around them.

This would all seem to lend credence to the multiple groups, with multiple agendas approach to it all. Still, I don't know for sure what they are interested in, but I do know that "they" are very real...who, or whatever they are.

What Ever Happened To The Babysitter?

There appears this cycle: A round-robin, whirling Dervish affair of denial of action to the UFO problem. It is there for all to see. This is especially so for those who have read up to a certain amount of the material available, gathered by officials of the government for many years, which clearly shows the reality of the UFO problem, as well as the "apparent" inaction by said agencies to really DO anything about it.

What I mean is that, even after such a long, and very difficult trek, the agencies most involved with the investigations seemed to just close up shop.

They just didn't find anything that would excuse the outlaying of expenditures into the realm of the "unknown" any longer.

But, in the real world, just how much really was left, of the whole UFO situation, without a baby sitter of some kind in attendance? What would we have done? What would our response be to the reality of this on-going string of events?

I don't know the answer to whether we do, or don't, have any type of special "UFO" agency. I tend to think it was simply absorbed into the everyday functions, in some way. When they had brought groups like the AISS into the equation, they were heralding, at the very least, that they had a deeper appreciation of the matter than they had been letting on about, up to that point. The question then would be, did this style of the chain links remain constant? How much was "it" was fused into the military culture? Does it continue on with groups such as the National Security Space Office (NSSO), or its predecessor the National Security Space Architect (NSSA), or the NRO?...etc.

"Well, mostly it just hung there...suspended over the hills. It started getting brighter, and bigger! As it brightened, it slowly rose up, into the sky."

"Wow, were you scared?"

"Yes, a little, but I figured I should document all of it for the sake of everyone else."

"Yes, of course. So...go on. What happened then?"

"Ok...ok...well, by about midday, it was hovering right over the house"

"So...it was moving rather slowly then?"

"Yes, very slowly"

"Were there any other witnesses...besides yourself?"

"Oh yes. There were people out in the street. They must have seen it too."

"What happened after it was hovering directly over your house?"

"It moved"

"Moved?"

"Yes. It went the other way, slowly heading toward the horizon. By late afternoon, it was hovering right over the hill, on the other side of the house...only now it was turning a deep red color. It really creeped me out. Just then, it was gone, and everything started getting darker. That's when I ran in and called the UFO reporting Center."

"Remarkable! What about your face?"

"Yes. There is one other thing. After I went inside, to make the call, I happened to pass by the mirror and stopped to look closer, 'cause all over my face and hands was like a red sunburn effect. In fact, it was everywhere that wasn't covered by my clothes. It hurt like sunburn too."

[Sticking only with verifiable occurrances, easily verified via the Blue Book documents, and all of the other Links I added to my blog]

1. Since at least the earliest parts of the 1900s, but maybe even the late 1800s (depending upon how many of these were early dirigibles), weird reports of other-worldly aeroships began to cross into reality, as if magically wrestled from the pages of some sci-Fi comic. UFOs erupted into our collective consciousness, especially,in 1947, after Kenneth Arnold's sighting drew so much attention.

2. From thne beginning there have been countless claims of reports of "Impacts" of an Unkown objects with the earth. Even with the more robust cases, official information, regarding the details of these, is always lacking.

3. reports of occupants emerged along side with object sightings, though it is under reported in most of the history.

4. reports of sightings, and differing levels of contact, have risen steadily with the history of the phenomenon

5. Years, and years of study have shown that our interceptors have chased countless numbers of UFOs (as in Unknown Aero Ships, rather than just unknown enemy aircraft) and it was always futile. Several cases have caused statements like: "It left into outer space", or "it went straight up, out of sight."

6. The psychological Warfare aspect of this phenomenon has been utilized by some apparatus in such a way as to have made it nearly impossible for anyone to be able to arrive at any solid truth regarding these phenomena, and their origin.

7. You don't disclose what is currently regarded as important, and secret.

A Short Something on Ghosts As Machinery

I was watching the History Channel today, and as one program was ending, and the new one beginning, I kept it on, and waited to see what was next. It happened to be about ghost hauntings in Philadelphia, and I paused to check it out...not sure why.

A story of repeated incidences of screaming, which would be heard at roughly the same time each night,is what caught my proverbial eye. Given, of course, that any of the witnesses are telling us the truth, as they know it, then what catches my attention is the mechanical nature of this, as well as other "hauntings."

Though I'm not all that interested in this subject, I feel that much in the way of ghost sightings, and hauntings, are very repetative...which lend itself to mechanical processes, or at least a mechanism-like occurrance. They are like an analog, or digital recording, being played back at a particular time. That's so much less "spiritual" and so much more mechanical, that it just stands out as such, to me.

Just my opinion.

Happier Times

Really, this is about loneliness. This is about the old feelings of unfinished work, yet to be accomplished. It is all about memories.

I remember when we lived in North Carolina, in the sixties, of hearing of reports of people seeing craft, and beings with heads shaped like footballs. I believe it was on the radio that I heard that particular bit.

For reasons that escape me, I picked up, and drank from the very can of soda my brother had just drunk from, who was sick with “the Mumps.” Later, in the night, I dreamed I was in our back yard, standing next to the swing set, and seeing a craft, kind of stretched out oval, or cigar-shaped, with a big window across the front, flying slowly up into the sky from behind our house. In this window there were several “beings”, at least one of them was waving back at me…to me

The next day, I was sick.

Day, by day, I progressively got worse. I couldn’t keep anything down…anything.

After many, many days of being this way, and getting skinnier, and skinnier, I was finally rushed to the hospital. They took me away, and I was kept for a week. I recovered, with my worried mother being told I had developed some type of gastro-intestinal infection-or-other.

Seems like it was yesterday.

Project: Bluebird, and the UFO Program

By the time the Air Force had prepared to release Blue Book Special Report #14 for publication, which was originally completed on March 17, 1954, there were so many people standing in line to get a copy that it actually seemed to take them by surprise. These folks were made up of a sampling of just about every aspect of the more "enlightened" of our citizenry, which included military, Intelligence, Government, Science and Academia.

Why were these people so eager to read the Air Force's "final" report on UFOs? Because as harsh as it sounds, the Air Force had been caught out-right lying on so many occasions in the past, that these people were jaded, and had heard that this report would be different. They knew that IBM had assisted them in pulling together the data, and assumed it would be thorough. Like us common folk, they wanted, and expected, the real answers.

Though the report was important, alas it was not as comprehensive as it was made to appear. This was, in large part, because several cases had already been mis-diagnosed, and been labled -prematurely- as Identified. An example of this was the Chiles-Whitted case of 1948. This case had been labled as being of meteoric origin previously, so that conclusion carried over into the final report. This would aide in bringing the total unknown count down, considerably. The total "Unknowns" count came out to be about 4%, but this was the percentage without the added statistic of "Insufficient Information", which would have raised it to something closer to 20%..a very clever ploy, indeed. While I was reviewing the documents pertaining to this report, I came across some information that could possibly paint a much darker picture of the whole affair.

On 27 January, 1956, Dr. Paul Fitts, one of the original specialists for Project: Grudge, wrote a letter to the Commander of the Air Technical Intelligence Center, at Wright Field, Ohio, Air Force Intelligence Office, asking for their authorization to borrow a copy of Special Report #14, to aide in a report he was working on at the time.

"Dear Sir," it began,"While I was head of the Psychology Branch, Aero Medical Laboratory, I reviewed some of the interview data from sightings of unidentified Aerial objects and prepared a report giving some psychological interpretations of these reports. Subsequently, about two years ago I served as a consultant to an Air Force contractor in connection with the preparation of a questionnaire to be used in collecting data on Project 'Bluebird'."

Critical in this bit of information is the fact that Project: Bluebird had birthed the now very well known, and now known to have become very abusive, mind-control experiments conducted under the umbrella of Project: MK ULTRA. Dr. Fitts is admitting that this 1949 program, Bluebird, was utilized, at least in part, for the UFO Program. The letter was penned in 1956, so when he said,"...about two years ago...an Air Force contractor" he was admitting that Bluebird, which was begun in 1949, was still operational in 1954.

According to Dr. Colin A. Ross, author of the book BLUEBIRD, it was the biginnings of the governments effort to "...create amnesia, new identites, hypnotic access codes, and new memories in the minds of experimental subjects". Gordon Thomas, in his 1989 book Journey Into Madness, wrote, "On July 20, 1950, the Agency (CIA) took its first practical step to test behavioral controls on humans."

Both Bluebird, and its predicessor CHATTER (Navy program 1947-1953 see Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_CHATTER ) emerged from Project Paperclip, the secret program to re-patriate several German Scientists into the United States. When Dr. Fitts wrote: "...a consultant to an Air Force contractor" was he referring to the CIA? It would seem logical, as the CIA was the principal agency behind Bluebird. Gordon Thomas wrote that he had heard that Project Bluebird was so named "when the director saw a bird soaring into the sky beyond his window." That director was first DCIA Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter.

According to Dr. Fitts, as per his letter to ATIC, in 1956, information on UFO witnesses was being used for project Bluebird. This troublesome connection between mind-control and the UFO witnesses needs to be explored much more, but I admit that my windows of opportunity are hit-and-miss, these days. This connection will be, and must be, exposed more completely. Maybe it is less of a connection than it appears. Maybe there is a good explanation to this connection with Project: Bluebird.

"Colonel Turner explained that the explosion actually was concussion caused by the force of the four and a half ton V-2 ramming the earth at 12 miles per minute...The alcohol and liquid oxygen with which the rocket is fueled would only burn and would not explode, the colonel explained. Mexican soldiers were ordered in the rater to mount guard. They were stationed on the rim, aiding American Military policemen to keep sight-seers and souvenir hunters from the area...Many El Pasoans spotted the rocket’s vapor trail after the missile was fired at White Sands, about 500 airline miles north of El Paso, and a few minutes later heard a terrific explosion and smoke rising in the direction of Juarez...Morris J. Boretz, who was en route to Southwestern General Hospital to visit his daughter, said he was at Brown street and Rim Road when he saw the rocket leaving White Sands and saw the crash south of the Rio Grand, looking like a miniature atomic bomb explosion."

The Split between the Army, and the Air Force, and the Roswell Case

In 1947, when the infamous Roswell crash occurred, the Air Force
wasn't yet an agency of its own. It was still the Air component of
the Army, known as the Army Air Corps, and Army Air Force, but as
the historical record reveals, there just happened to a very large
amount of distrust between the new Air Force, and the Army. This
wasn't just a small matter. The distrust was so great, that Harold
Watson was tasked with spying on the Army, on behalf of the Air
Force. This is the same Watson who became so well known as the
great UFO debunker for the Air Force's UFO, Flying Saucer/Disc
Program.

In 1947, the Army was in charge...pretty much! They immendiately
began to compete with the Navy over the new Missile Defense type of
programs. As the location was being affirmed, for the joint
missile testing grounds, the Army retained most of the control over
the newly established White Sands Proving Ground (first known as
the Long Range Proving Ground). The head committe was controlled
by the Army, and immediately after the Roswell crash, the Army, and
Air Force began battling over the territory, and its usage.
The Air Corp was just beginning to split from the Army as this
momentous event was unfolding. Could this division explain some of
the mysterious discrepatcies in the case?

If you examine the manner in which the events transpired, it indeed
gives the appearance of one hand not knowing what the other is
doing.

For instance, one of the most common arguments surrounding the
affair is the manner in which the case was presented to the public,
and the time passage from when the "explained" event occurred, as
compared to when the clean-up operation began.

What if the Air Corp component stumbled upon something, which the
Army component quickly seized control of? Then ordered the Air
component to go along with a cover-up of the "real" event? As time
passed, and the Air Force was seperated, the secret remained with
the Army, who continued to investigate from a secret location at
the WSPG.

This would explain some of the discrepancies in the way it was
handled, as well as the way in which the relationship between the
new Air Force, and the Army, grew with such a paranoid, and
distrusting nature.

During the late 1940s, the Army began testing captured,
German V-2 missiles at White Sands, New Mexico. The question was
asked of General Watson, "What's the Army doing at White Sands?"
Since the question came from a high level, he decided to find out.
To gather the information, General Watson decided to see what
information could be obtained using electronic surveillance. After
getting his plan approved by J. Edgar Hoover, the Federal Bureau of
Investigation director, and General Nathan Twining, the Air Force
Chief of Staff, General Watson put a crew in a hotel in Alamogordo,
New Mexico, near the White Sands missile range to spy on the Army.
This was the start of electronics intelligence (ELINT) as a
concerted effort in the Air Force.

Why on earth would the Air Foprce be so worried about what the Army
was doing out there? So worried they would spy on the Army, to
find out. Its not as if the Air Force was completely out of the
"entire" loop!

...What TID/ATIC also needed, General Watson believed, was a
"gold mine" in technology. Accordingly, in 1950 he contacted Dr
Clyde Williams at the Battelle Corporation (now, Battelle Memorial
Laboratories) in Columbus, Ohio, to see if they would be willing to
work under contract for ATIC. The ATIC commander told Dr Williams
that he needed technological and scientific information and asked
if Battelle had any Russians in the work force. General Watson also
needed to know whether there was a place within the corporation
that could be turned into a secure compartment. General Watson
asked the Secretary of the Air Force for Air, Harold Talbot, for
$20 million for a contract with Battelle to provide technical and
scientific data on the Russians. This was the start of Project
Stork, later called White Stork and Have Stork."

Project "STORK" was also part of the UFO re-hash program, as can be read in the documents turned over to the National Archives, by the Air Force.

Battelle, one of the foremost metallurgical institutes in the
nation, had people who spoke Russian and Russian documents; they
also found some documents at Ohio State University. Gus Simpson
from ATIC ran the group at Battelle. Some folks at ATIC were
offended that the work went to a private contractor, but Watson
just did not have the people to do the work and did not have
Russian linguists. Battelle helped ATIC evaluate the MiG-15
components brought to the United States in 1951.

It is my opinion, for what it is worth, that the rivalry between
the Army, and the Air Force, is behind much of the UFO secret, as
well as the "Roswell" secret. It appears to me that the Air Force
was tasked to investigate something the Army was already very aware
of.

The book "We Develop Missiles, Not Air!" by Mattson and Martyn Tagg, (Air Combat Command,USAF/Cultural Resources Publication No. 2/June 1995) said the launch took place at 4:08 p.m. from Launch Complex 33. The liquid fuel was programmed to burn for 63.6 seconds, and thrust the 9,827-pound rocket to 4,696 feet per second or 3,202 mph, attaining 76 miles in altitude. However, technicians noted "steering was a trouble from liftoff," and "We Develop Missiles, Not Air!" said the V-2 "began tumbling end over end through the atmosphere. The pressure broke the missile apart." Pieces fell near 13th Street and Cuba Avenue, and along the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks. The News reported residents "got into cars and
hastened to the vicinity" of the crash above Indian Wells Road, about 35 miles from LC 33. Citizens also "guarded a portion of the apparatus the rocket was carrying" that had plummeted down to First Street. Bob Callaway, a high school freshman in 1947, said in a 1995 NMMSH oral history that he and a friend were tossing a ball at Michigan Avenue and 15th Street when the power lines "started shaking violently. About that time we got the sound wave from the explosion of the V-2." Callaway and four friends rushed to the scene in a truck, and watched personnel load wreckage onto a trailer. He said security permitted them to take non-hazardous material,
and they carted off a "bonanza" of wiring and steel tanks. They used the wires to build model airplanes, and the tanks to make "portable welding units," he said.
Callaway knew of one person who found cameras. That night "OSI started knocking on doors, and believe it or not, by midnight had recovered all five cameras," Callaway said. An Army release stated the payload was benign: "scientific equipment" for the Naval Research Laboratory, "two spectrographs and four 16mm gunsight aiming point cameras a cosmic ray count recorder camera and two other aircraft cameras." Also aboard was "a quantity of rye seed, which will be tested for effect on fertility of exposure to the upper atmosphere."

[Bob note: this type of atmospheric rocket research is known as Aeronomy.]

The May 29 disaster was never listed in "the official White Sands firing summary," Mattson said in the New Mexico Space Journal. Launched from LC 33, the rocket was supposed to fly north, but instead turned south. "The missile ultimately arced over El Paso and landed" (impacted) south of Juarez near a cemetery. "A few hours after the wayward missile landed (impacted), the U.S. Army showed up and found that enterprising Mexicans were selling any old piece of scrap metal they could find and claiming it was V-2 debris. The United States ultimately apologized to Mexico for the incident and paid for all damages incurred." There is no record the News ever directly reported on the second incident, but the paper did reference it in the June 17 article. The story also said the Chamber of Commerce asked Hatch to "withdraw his recommendations to the War Department." Subsequently, V-2 launches
"resumed" in July 1947 "after safety procedures had been developed to prevent the rockets from endangering civilian populations again," Mattson wrote in the Space Journal.

I have been researching different rocket lauches that took place, in early 1947, from different ranges, and can see more evidence of omissions in the records, as is mentioned in these historical quotes. There is some reference to a WAC Corporal launch on an unspecified date during the time of the so-called "Roswell Crash", but as yet, I have not been able to pin point the exact date of firing, or exactly where it impacted. But, according to a United Kingdom Rocketry site, there is the only reference i was able to locate of a V-2 firing on July 4:

Since this is the proper date, and the mission seems to have involved a biological experiment, it seems to be very much in need of vetting. More needs to be done to find out the particulars of this mission. One thing that is readily apparent from reading these historical quotes is that normal folks, in that time period, were well aquainted with projects going on at areas like White Sands Proving Ground, and when an object from that area went astray, they were quick on the scene to collect debris. Not only that, but authorities allowed people to collect samples.

Even when the samples were of a classified type, such as the cameras, they (the military) didn't threaten them, they just asked for them back....and got them. it is just one reason why so many people have doubted the word of those who claimed to have been threatened by Army Air Force military police men, when dealing with what was recovered North Of Roswell, New Mexico, that summer.

According to witness that showed up at the Roswell incident, in much the same way as any of the V-2 impacts, to collect samples, they were turned away by military blockades. In the V-2 incident that I quoted from the White Sands Range History page, local citizens had blocked off the area, until the military could get there. Such was the patriotic feelings of Americans living in New Mexico at the time.

It is obvious that the head of the AAF Intelligence unit, the Sheriff, and even a rancher, would have understood the basic nature of the "find", even if it was made up of a large number of radar reflection devices. It would have landed in a train, in a fairly small area. Eyewitness accounts of shredded foil, strewn over a wide area, would have resulted from either an explosion, or high-speed impact. If it was an impact of a V-2 rocket, there would have been a large crater, and lots of easy-to-identify material...such as wires, and very terrestrial metal chuncks.

Pointing to the later reports that match the famous photographs doesn't solve the riddle either, because too many of the original witnesses to the debris field, and the debris, describe it as being mysterious, and "like nothing I'd ever seen before".

The mystery continues.

This SAG report was crucial in determining the future course for Air Strategies. Interesting reports most related to my studies are the guided rockets, and pilotless Aircraft studies, along with the history of RADAR.

Here are a couple of samples from the reports:

TARGET PROPERTIES

The distinguishing features of an individual echo are very few. As we have said,
nonmetallic objects, as well as metallic objects, reflect. A tank parked in a wood, and the trees around it produce echoeswhicbdiffer, if at all, only in intensity. In certain very special cases a characteristic relation between the polarization of the incident 50 and reflected waves may be identifiable. There is, however, one important characteristic of many military targets which strikingly distinguishes them from their surroundings, their rapid motion. It is possible to exploit this advantage by various means discussed in a later section, and to isolate the echoes from targets which are moving. The further application and improvement of these techniques is likely to prove one of the most productive lines of radar development during the next few years.

TACTICAL EMPLOYMENT

Air warning of enemy attack to ground installations is only a partially solved
problem. The solution has failed in two ways: There has been failure to establish
the existence of hostile aircraft, and there has been failure to appreciate that warning without thwarting the attack is of little value.
Failure to pick up enemy attack has been caused by "on the deck" fiying which
results in screening by the horizon, and by the extreme high-altitude trajectories of
the German V-2 rockets. The low-altitude attack can be met by elevation of the warning radar. This can best be accomplished by the use of a long-range airborne set. A start toward the solution of this problem has been made with the introduction of the AEW. In order to complete this solution, it will be necessary to remove sea return and ground echoes, and to increase the range of the equipment considerably. V-2 warning must be accomplished by improving the high-altitude coverage of radar equipment. Since the rocket weapons of the future will go to fantastically high altitudes, it may be impractical to provide coverage for warning purposes over more than a limited portion of the trajectory. The provision of warning, without measures for preventing the attack, is almost useless. In the case of low-fiying aircraft. the use of airborne warning systems must be coupled with control of defensive measures. As in the case of ground radar, the warning function must take second place to the control function. Two possibilities exist: control must be carried out either from the aircraft. or from a ground station to which the air picture is relayed. Since rocket weapons of great size and long range are likely to be one of the main weapons of the next war, the defense against these must be developed. The unsolved problem of this war is the provision of warning of the approach of such rockets, and, much more important, their destruction at a safe distance from the target. Obvious requirements of the battle against super rockets are a maximum period of warning, and a projectile capable of destroying them at high altitudes. Both of these requirements remain to be met.

Veteran Ufologist Richard Hall Succumbs To Cancer!

It is with great sadness today that I report the passing of one of Ufology’s icons; Richard (Dick) Hall succumbed to Cancer this morning, he was 78 years old.

Dick was born on December 25, 1930, in Hartford, Connecticut; in 1949, realizing that war was forthcoming, he spent two years with the newly borne Air Force, followed by six years in the Air Force Reserve.

After his service he took odd jobs and moved around a bit, until landing at Tulane University, (New Orleans) in 1954. He initially majored in mathematics and then switched to philosophy.

The hub-bub about Flying Saucers in the early 50's got Dick's attention, and he joined the then recently formed NICAP organization. He would become life long friends with its Director, and another UFO icon, Donald E. Keyhoe.

In 1993 through 1998 Dick would serve as Chairman of the Fund for UFO Research; he was prolific writer, who authored a few books, some which are considered hallmarks to Ufological research, e.g., UFO Evidence, The UFO Evidence, Volume II: A Thirty-year Report, Uninvited Guests with his latest endeavor being The Journal of UFO History, a monthly periodical detailing the annals of Ufology.

I can say with great authority that many of us held Dick Hall in the highest esteem; his shoes cannot be filled, however, his life's contribution to Ufology will be a permanent record, a fitting legacy for us all.

The UFO project was referred to as SIGN through the end of 1948, during which the Air Force had brought in well known, and respected, individuals to clarify the problem for future Air Defense programs.

One of these was Dr. G. E. Valley of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is simply listed as a member of the Air Force’s Scientific Advisory Board, in one document.

It goes on to describe the Air Force’s interest in him this way: “Since many reporters colored their reports with talk of ray, electronic beams, and magnetic support and propulsion, Dr. Valley was asked to analyze the incidents and decide whether this could possibly be the case, in any instance, and to provide information on this matter...” Dr. Valley’s concerns would lead the way to the creation of what became our Continental Air Defense system.

In Appendix “C” of Dr. Valley’s report to the Air Force, he dealt with the different possible explanations for UFOs. One theory postulated the theory that the UFOs represented interplanetary spaceships:

Included in the report, Dr. Valley wrote:

“…3. Space Ships: The following considerations pertain:

a. If there is an extra terrestrial civilization which can make such objects as are reported then it is most probable that its development is far in advance of ours. This argument can be supported on probability arguments alone without recourse to astronomical hypotheses.
b. Such a civilization might observe that on Earth we now have atomic bombs and are fast developing rockets. In view of the past history of mankind, they should be alarmed. We should, therefore, expect at this time above all to behold such visitations.
c. Since the acts of mankind most easily observed from a distance are A-bomb explosions we should expect some relation to obtain between the time of A-bomb explosions, the time at which the space ships are seen, and the time required for such ships to arrive from and return to home base…”

This description of the varied phenomena surrounding the UFO story turned out to be about as accurate as it could be. While this certainly does not mean that it is a sure thing, it is one reason the Extra Terrestrial hypothesis had become so viable to those in the know. G. E. valley would go on the father the UFO defensive system that we would later embrace, after much discussion, and argument.

Another big name on the list of experts was Dr. Joseph Kaplan:

“Joseph Kaplan Papers, ca. 1940-1978, Collection number: 156 Creator: Kaplan, Joseph, 1902- Repository: University of California, Los Angeles. Library. Department of Special Collections. Abstract: Joseph Kaplan (1902- ) was a professor of physics at UCLA, chairman of the department and the director of the Institute of Geophysics. He was also a member of the National Academy of Science, and served as chairman of the U.S. National Committee for the International Geophysical Year (1957-58).”

Professor Kaplan was to contribute the most in 1949, with the rise of the so-called “green fireball” phenomenon. By November, a conference was held to discuss the matter.

This meeting spawned for us a new term, coined by Dr. Kaplan: Detection, Surveillance, and Protection (DSP). Over the years it has evolved into a very large, inter-connected group of satellites and ground monitoring stations, which are known collectively as the Defense Support Program.

Another well known expert assisting the Air Force was Dr. J. Allen Hynek. He is listed, in one Air Force document as simply an astronomer, with the Ohio State University. Actually he was, at the time in question, the Director of the observatory there. He had been enlisted, “…for the purpose of attempting to determine which reported objects might be attributed to natural celestial phenomena.” Dr. Hynek had contributed so much through all the years he involved himself, that he is surely, now, one of the most recognizable figures in the whole UFO story.

As the incidences grew in scope and frequency, all sorts of fears were being brought to the table, at many high-level meetings. Industrial methodology was also beginning to be incorporated into the investigation. Research and Development was becoming an important factor in the UFO program. At this juncture, the *RAND Corporation entered the picture. It had been enlisted by Project: SIGN to research the data that presented the phenomenon as being space ships from an advanced culture. They were to expound on their research and build test systems if possible.

If there had been non-terrestrial material to study, it would have been a logical step, for the Air Force to bring Project: RAND into program. Project: RAND: also known as The Research and Development Corporation, had been created, in 1945, by General “Hap” Arnold. In a report to the Army Air Force Commander, he wrote: “…The conclusion is inescapable that we have not yet established the balance necessary to insure the continuance of teamwork among the military, other government agencies, industry, and the universities. Scientific planning must be years in advance of the actual research and development work.”

It seems likely that RAND was also designed to back-engineer aeronautical material recovered from the Nazis. General Arnold had been joined by others, including 1Dr. Theodore Von Karman, and 2Donald Douglas (President of Douglas Aircraft Co.). They brought innovative and standard setting methodologies to their Santa Monica based operation.

A few others listed as being responsible for the creation of RAND are 3Edward Bowles (MIT), 4General Lauris Norstad (Assisitant Chief of Air Staff, Plans), 5Major General Curtis LeMay, 6Arthur Raymond (Chief Engineer at Douglas Aircraft Co.), and 7Franklin Collbohm (Mr. Raymond’s assistant). From a meeting at Hamilton Field, California, General Arnold, Bowels, Douglas, Raymond and Collbohm designed RAND, and then got up and running.

Abstract:

Witness and family had met at a vacation resort in the Bahama Islands for Christmas vacation scuba diving. The weather was warm, but windy most of the time. After a couple of restful, uneventful days of relaxing, exploring the island and diving, an evening arrived where the witness was in the clubhouse with the dive master, the dive-master's girlfriend, and another guest. Somehow the subject of UFOs came up, and the witness found himself deep in a conversation about it. After they retired, later in evening, the event most likely took place.

"We were sitting in front of the small bar. The dive master was acting as the bartender. Somehow the conversation veered from tomorrow's dive to UFOs. I don't remember how, but, admittedly, it might have been me that started it, given that the previous year I saw the introduction of William Cooper into the UFO scene. I had been into the subject for many years prior to this, and was shown a video of a speech he gave in 1989. His speech angered me because I had thought he was some kind of agent, sent to muddy up the waters with disinformation. People I know who had done work in Military Intelligence referred to him as a "gray propagandist", which means the act of mixing a small amount of truth with a large amount of fiction.

As I explained some of the things I had heard about him, and the information he imparted, a woman who had been sitting next to me began to become very agitated. She began to berate me, saying that I was a fool for believing such nonsense, etc. I tried to reason with her, explaining to her that I did not necessarily believe anything he said, but I think I focused on the John Lear, Cooper "their eating us" information a little too much for her liking. She got up, and left the clubhouse. I asked the dive master who she was, and was asked if I knew who Daniel Sheehan was. I said yes, he headed the Christic Institute. They told me she was his personal secretary. It made me feel very odd, since I had been a supporter of that group, and wondered what she must have thought of me.
The dive master, his girlfriend, and I continued our talk for a couple of more hours, before we all realized how late it was getting. We each then retired to our respective bungalows, which were very small units with two cots each in them. There was only one phone in this resort, located at the main office. When I reached my wife’s and my hut, I found her already asleep, so I quietly got ready for bed, and slipped into my cot. I thought about the dive planned for the morning, and then fell quickly asleep.

That night I had a strange, but elusively distant dream. All I could remember of it was that just before I awoke, I was being shone, by someone, a doll which resembled a combination of the nutcracker from the famous story and Ballet, and of all things, what appeared to be Ringo Star...at least that’s what it reminded me of at the time. It had longish hair, but was neatly trimmed. The cheeks and the nose area of the doll were finished with extreme redness...kind of like certain hand puppets of old. As I came to consciousness, straight out of the dream, I turned over in my cot, just as my wife was turning over on hers. When she faced me I was surprised to see that she had the same features I had just been shown on the doll. Her cheeks and nose area were extremely red in exactly the same way.

"Wow", I said. "What happened to you?"

She replied that she didn't know, but that she didn't feel well, and had a terrible headache. After she was examined by a doctor it was determined that she had developed a sinus-infection, and she wouldn't be able to join us for the morning dive. It was a real disappointment, but she decided to go with us on the boat to watch. I went out to check with the dive master, to double-check that the dive was still on. As I approached the boat dock, I saw him hurrying toward me. He didn't look happy. When he caught up to me he immediately began to accuse me of slipping something in their drinks, that previous evening. He went on, and on about it, and asked, "What did you do to us last night?...we all had dreams about aliens...my girlfriend thinks we were abducted, or something". I assured him that I hadn't done anything, and apologized for putting the ideas in their heads, via our conversations at the bar.

At that, the subject was dropped, and from that moment on. It was as if he never said anything to me. He went from being very upset, to being extremely calm, and then everything was normal again. He said the dive was on, and to go ahead and fetch my gear. He said the seas were a little rough, but that it shouldn't interfere with the dive. I shrugged it all off, since he now seemed fine, and returned to check to see how my wife was feeling. She was a little better, but groggy. After some breakfast we proceeded to the dive boat, and departed for our first dive.

A short time later, after we arrived at the dive spot, it became very calm --very suddenly, and the dive master suggested that anyone wishing to dive should do so while it was as calm as it was. Suddenly, to my left, the Port side of the craft, I caught some type of movement. As I gazed out I saw the unmistakable sight of a shark fin cutting the surface of the water, just like you see in movies. I pointed, and asked, “Is that a shark?"

As I said this, the fin slipped under the water and the dive master said, “Where...I don't see anything." I sat back down on the bench, and as I did so, witnessed the most amazing thing ever. To my surprise, a gigantic whale shark had come up to my side of the boat...pretty much right up to me. I felt compelled to reach over the rail, and it just floated there, as I stroked it with my hand. I felt elated at this opportunity, and was taking it in with enormous delight. Unfortunately, the rest of the crew, except for my wife, had begun to feverishly don their gear, and before I could do anything about it, they were all jumping in, and onto the whale shark, whopping and hollering. I was horrified! The great emotional high I was feeling quickly turned to sadness, as the poor whale shark had to hightail it out of there. I grabbed my mask, and leaning over the rail I put my face down in the water to see what was going on. What I saw was an image of the dive master hanging on its dorsal fin, as the whale shark dove downward, toward the depths.

I stood up, and shook my head. What a perfect example of how short-sided and idiotic we can be. After several minutes, the dive master's head popped up, and he hooped with excitement. "Yeah, Baby...Yeah!"

All the way back to the dock he was singing "Whale shark b-a-y-bee", to the tune of “Love Shack”. I couldn't help but feel ashamed of my fellow human beings, at that particular moment in time. It might just as well have been some type of extra-terrestrial species attempting to make contact. The results were obvious enough to tell me it would be impossible, at this point in history. Nothing more was ever said about the dreams, or aliens, or anything related to it, for the rest of the vacation. it was as if the whole affair had never even occurred. A day, or two after we returned home from our trip, I had an experience unlike anything I have ever had up to that point, or after.

The night after we returned home, I had the longest, most intense dream I have ever had before, and I am now fairly sure that it represents what happened that peculiar night on Andros.

The dream begins with me sitting on a bench in what I think is the clubhouse. The difference being it appeared that the couch/bench that I was sitting on traveled around the room in a circular fashion, and the benches/couches in the clubhouse were small, and broken up into sections. After a few moments I began to notice that the people sitting in the other places on the circular couch, or bench, all seemed to be in a trance. They all stared straight ahead, and said nothing.

After a few more moments, I heard a commotion outside, and it drew my attention there. I got up, and walked outside through the swinging, spring-loaded door. As I stepped onto the small pebbles that served as the walkway, between all of the buildings, and heard them crunch under my feet, I realized that someone ahead of me, to my right, was shouting to look up into the palm tree, which was right in front of me. I did look up, and saw that it indeed looked as if there was “something” just above, or on top of the tree. I backed up a short distance, to see if I could get a better look. As I did this, a sudden shout rang out, and people started running, saying something like, “run! Get outta here!”

At first, I was drawn into this panic, and began to run. But suddenly I felt angry, and said out loud, “I’m not running away again!” With this I stopped, and turned around. When I did, several beings of different types were seen coming around the corner of the clubhouse toward me. They looked like nothing I had ever seen, or heard described before, including in any Science Fiction story or movie.
There were two taller ones, and several very short ones, who were gliding toward me. I believe one of the taller ones pointed toward me, motioning as if to say, “fetch”, or something along those lines.

As they moved toward me, I experienced the most profound sense of fear I have ever felt. Considering this was being remembered via a dream, it made it even odder. I have had many horrific nightmares in my lifetime, as have so many other people. I have woken up from dreams suddenly, because of their frightening content, but never, ever, have I experienced the sort of fear that I felt during the moments they came toward me. My ears felt burning hot, and I was close to panic.

The two taller ones stayed near the corner of the building. One of them had blue eyes, and the other had red eyes. The one with blue eyes wore a blue coat, and the one with red eyes wore a red coat. Their eyes glowed intensely, and their coats matched that intensity exactly. In fact, it seemed as if the coats and eyes were of the same material. The colors were so vibrant, that I was in awe of them.

When the little guys reached me, I reacted without thinking. I grabbed them one-by-one, throwing them to my left. Each time I did this, I said, loudly, “I cast you out in the name of Jesus!” As I grabbed the third of the small guys, one of the taller ones “danced” over to me. His movements were similar to a Kung Fu Master, or a Javanese dancer…arms up…hands, and fingers weaving through the air…spinning around as he moved toward me with surprising speed. For the life of me, I can not recall if it was the blue one, or the red one. When he reached me he put his face right up to mine, and I went limp…hands to my sides.

He positioned himself to my left, and took my hand in his. The moment he did this, I was 5 years old. I was running through a field. There were dandelion puffs, and butterflies flying across my field of vision. I felt more at peace than I think I ever have. It was as if I didn’t have a care in the world. I just ran, and ran…but then suddenly, like Peter walking on the water, I began to doubt. I remembered where I was, and called out, “No!” I let go of his hand at the same time I yelled. He put his hand on my shoulder, like a dad comforting a son who just struck out with the bases loaded.

He then moved to my right side. As he stood there, I fought with everything that I had, to look up. I remember consciously thinking, “look up…remember this…pay attention”.

I was able to lift up my head just enough to get a good look at his jacket, yet, unbelievably, I still do not remember if it was the blue one, or the red. I always tend to think it was the blue one, but can’t be sure. It seems ridiculous, as if the whole thing doesn’t sound ridiculous…but seriously, I can not be sure which guy it was, for some reason.

What I do remember is that the jacket was long. I’d say about down to the knees. It was covered with jewels, and woven with intricate designs in gold and silver thread, which reminded me of the gold threaded designs one sees on an officer’s cap. There was a lacy quality to it as well that the jewels were woven into. It was truly beyond description. It was the single most beautiful thing I think I have ever seen manufactured by anyone. I don’t think any master craftsperson on this planet could have reproduced it.

I remember that the collar was notched, like a Hindu, or a catholic priest’s, only without the white square block. I don’t remember their faces at all. Their eyes were so unbelievably vibrant that it was all I could really see of their faces.

The dream ended here.

I woke up feeling exhausted. I had never experienced anything like that…ever! It truly felt as if I hadn’t slept at all. I was tired all day, but also alive with wonder. The memory of it played over, and over in my mind all day long.

The next evening I dreamed a short, what seemed like, an addendum to the previous memory/dream.

This one begins walking down a corridor, or an elongated hallway of some sort. It reminded me of being inside a submarine. There was a lower area in the middle, between the two walk ways, which, I believe were lined with hand rails. Whoever was escorting me took me through a doorway, which again reminded me of a submarine for some reason. In the next room, the two walkways continued, but in the lower area in the middle, there were tables. These appeared like examination tables in a doctor’s office. On the table below us, there lay one of those smaller guys that I had thrown. I was motioned by the one who had led me there to go down to the table. I worked my way to it and walked by it, examining the thing lying there as I did.

The head of it was light bulb shaped, with the big end on top, the narrow end to the chin, or equivalent. The color was yellow ocher. It reminded me of the material that older computer mother boards were made of. I had owned several motherboards that were a brownish color, as opposed to the common green color of many. This one was like the brown ones, and was very glossy. It had a multi-layered look to it, like a liquid crystal display for a watch. There was a face, with the representation of mouth and eyes on it. They were only lines, not details. The mouth was in a zig-zag pattern, set in a semi-circle like a frown. This gave the appearance great displeasure!

I suddenly felt remorse, realizing that I had probably broken one, or more of their little robot things. I hadn’t meant to, but was so fearful of being captured, that I had instinctively reacted in an extremely defensive manner. I didn’t say anything out loud, but thought that I was very sorry, and the moment I had this thought, the little things mouth turned into a smile, and it bolted into a sitting position, turning its head so that it was looking toward me.

That ended this dream, and I have not had any other instances of remembrance since that time.

Distant Early Warning Line Radars: The Quest for Automatic Signal Detection

In the early 1950s, the threat of manned bombers carrying nuclear weapons across the arctic region was of paramount concern in continental defense. The 1952 Summer Study at MIT recommended the development of an early-warning radar line across the northern reaches of Alaska and Canada, from Cape Lisburne on the northwest corner of Alaska to Cape Dyer on Baffin Island on the east coast of Canada. It was an ambitious undertaking, particularly since the radar system had not yet been developed or designed and a new detection process had yet to be invented. Among other innovations the radar net was proposed to use automatic-detection techniques to reduce drastically the heavy manpower requirements and unacceptable time delays characteristic of manual radar operations of the period. After the U.S. Air Force accepted the Summer Study recommendation in December 1952, Lincoln Laboratory was contracted to deliver ten radar sets by 30 April 1953, a period of less than five months. F. Robert Naka was assigned the task of developing the automated radar signal processing and alarm system. The article reviews the primary author’s experiences with this challenging radar project. While the technical problems sound primitive in view of today’s radar capabilities, they were met and solved at a pace that was easily ten times faster than today’s Department of Defense developments.

In 1951, the Air Force procured the Beacon Hill Study in Project Lincoln at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In its final form, the study reported on intelligence future forecasting. The Air Force's role in ICBM development and in strategic reconnaissance during that period made the study's conclusion all the more significant. The study stressed the fact that every nation's skies should be open for inspection of their military capabilities. Their conclusions were referred to as the "Open Skies" report.
The Cold War was in full swing as the Soviets posed a very significant air threat. In 1947, the Air Force had established its Long-Range Detection Program to monitor the Soviet nuclear program. Its air-sampling capability discovered that the USSR had exploded a nuclear bomb in August 1949.
Detection devices of all types were created to monitor the Soviet Union. The National Security Agency was created in 1952 to gather communications intelligence.
In 1952, the U.S. exploded a hydrogen bomb device. The following year, the USSR conducted a similar test. The Air Force’s Strategic Air Command (SAC) required modernization. Unfortunately, the Air Force did not have the resources that were needed until the Korean War created new funding opportunities.
The Air Force made the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) a priority. But accurate information on enemy targets was severely lacking. In response, the Air Force Secretary Harold Talbott ordered that the missile program receive all necessary funding.

Completed in August of 1951, the Project Charles report advocated improving national air defense measures and provided a justification for the establishment of MIT's Lincoln Laboratory and the development of the SAGE air defense system. In the Beacon Hill report of 1952, Land and his co-authors advocated improving radar and photoreconnaissance techniques to keep track of Soviet military developments. In these projects and as a member of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board from 1952 through 1957, Land earned his credentials as a member of the civilian scientific elite (which included such luminaries as Theodore von Karman, James R. Killian, and John von Neumann) that exercised a great deal of influence over military science and technology policy during the Cold War.

ABSTRACT
For an hour the United States military was under a condition of national emergency during the morning of December 6, 1950. Two days later the FBI was informed that the Army's Counter Intelligence Corps had been placed on Immediate High Alert for any information related to flying saucers.

On December 6, Air Force Colonel Charles Winkle, Assistant Executive in the Directorate for Plans, wrote a memorandum for Secretary of Defense George Marshall about this event. It confirms the alert:

SUBJECT: Air Alert - 1030 Hours , 6 December 1950
1. The ConAC (Continental Air Command) Air Defense Controller notified the Headquarters USAF Command Post that at 1030 hours a number of unidentified aircraft were approaching the northeast area of the United States and that there was no reason to believe the aircraft were friendly.
2. This information was further amplified at 1040 hours as follows. By radar contact it was determined that approximately 40 aircraft were in flight, at 32,000 feet, on a course of 200 degrees in the vicinity of Limestone, Maine.
3. The emergency alert procedure went into effect immediately.
4. The Office of the President was notified. Brigadier General Landry returned the call and stated that the President had been notified and that:
a. All information in this matter was to be released by the Department of the Air Force.
b. Office of the President would release no information.
c. The substance of a and b above was to be passed to the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
5. At 1104 hours the ConAC Air Defense Controller states that the original track had faded out and it appeared that the flight as originally identified is a friendly flight.
6. ConAC took immediate action to dispatch interceptors on the initial contact.

What Symington said to Forrestal on this short trip remains a mystery. Symington later denied the trip had occurred or that he was alone with Forrestal, but Leva and Ohly are insistent on that point. They imply Symington said something that shattered Forrestal’s last remaining defenses, for when Leva entered Forrestal’s office a short time later he was sitting in an extremely rigid position, still wearing his hat and staring blankly at a bare wall…”

A fair question to ask is: what did Symington say to Forrestal? Whatever it was, it seemed to be Forrestal's undoing!

By 1948 Air Force Intelligence--contrary to the estimates of both Army and Navy intelligence services and to those of the Central Intelligence Agency--had come to believe strongly in the possibility of imminent Soviet attack. This view bordered on the bizarre. Such an attack would have required (a) the Tu-4 Bull long-range bombers demonstrated for the first time in a 1948 Soviet air show and not produced in any quantity until the following year, (b) a suicide mission strategy, since the Tu-4 could hold enough fuel to reach the United States from the USSR, but not to return, and, most absurdly, (c) the USSR's willingness to risk American atomic retaliation at a time when it possessed only conventional weapons. The Air Force leadership, grounding its faith in the demonizing discourse of the Cold War, thought the kamikaze strategy a real possibility and apparently suspected, on the thinnest of evidence, that the necessary elements of this strategic scenario might be much more advanced than they seemed.41

The strange 1948 emergency alert provides good evidence of the strength of these implausible assumptions. In March of that year, USAF Headquarters ordered the existing skeleton emergency air defense system onto 24-hour alert. The alert lasted nearly a month, until it was suddenly canceled in mid-April. It apparently resulted from reports by Lt. Gen. Ennis C. Whitehead, AF commander in the Far East, of a series of "strange incidents and [Soviet] excursions" over Japan, combined with a change in Soviet European military alignments after the communist coup in Czechoslovakia.42

Data is thin that would confirm that there was ever an actual program referred to as "Pounce", yet there are intriguing bits and pieces to be found in the archives.

Documents circa 1953 reveal stories of F-86 interceptors being vectored toward UFOs, some of which escaped pursuit by exiting vertically, presumably into outer-space. These jet planes had been maneuvered into what was being referred to as "pounce" position. Ground Control Intercept (GCI)had specifically used the term "Pounce Position" when describing, at least one, of the accounts the of F-86 interceptions.

An Internet search conducted on the phrases "air combat + Pounce" took me to several papers dealing with military air combat. Pounce seems to be a fairly common term. It refers to the act of pouncing on a ground target, as in a railroad yard, or bridge, as well it also was used when referring to the act of the pilot getting his plane over, and above an air target. Once they were above the target, and hopefully unseen by the enemy aircraft as well, they would "pounce" upon them in surprise.

Col. Methaney was the CO of the 34th Air Defense Division in Albuquerque. He is now a Brigadier General. He was firmly convinced that the UFO's were real and that they were interplanetary space ships. He wrote up a plan that called for a special squadron of stripped down F-94C's to chase the UFO's. The plan went through Western Air Defense Headquarters and to Air Defense Command Headquarters but it was rejected because of the non-availability of the aircraft. It was in the 34th that the F-86 pilot claimed that he shot at the UFO...Colonel Methany (Ruppelt misspells in these notes but not in his book) was indeed head of the 34th Air Defense Division at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His plan, dubbed Project Pounce, to use F-94C fighters to go after UFOs with gun-cameras was discarded under the motive that due to the Korean war, there were not enough planes available...The UFO shooting incident Ruppelt refers to is detailed in the beginning of Chapter 1 of his book. Another dramatic event transpired in July of the same year. A rocket-shaped vehicle almost collided with a passenger airline on July 24, 1948. The Eastern Airlines flight was over Montgomery, Alabama at the time. Listed in the files as case number 144, it is broken down into parts “a” and “b” –as there was a separate sighting of a meteor at the time. The final AF report states: “…The object reported in incident #144a and 144b was very probably a meteor…It should be noted that this object was traveling in the same direction as the one reported in #144, although separated by some 400 miles.”

The rest of the page of this document is nearly illegible. The pilot and co-pilot disagreed on only a few minor points. They were both describing the same event, each from their own perspective, in very clear terms, very meticulously. There was one passenger awake, at the time, but he had but a glimpse of it. The pilot went so far as to describe a bulbous nose on the front of the craft, which reminded him of a type of radar housing. The co-pilot saw no such bump, to his recollection, and the passenger, saw a flash.

They both clearly described seeing two decks of rows of windows, running along the side of the craft, and a bright cherry-red flame shooting for a distance out of the rear of the craft, which got bigger as it accelerated up and away. Though it would seem highly improbable that the two pilots, who were considered competent witnesses, were describing a meteor, the Air Force concluded it was just that –a meteor.

The meteor explanations became even easier later, as the later “experts” who were brought into the UFO Program by the Air Force, to make recommendations never really saw detailed case reports, such as these. They instead made their final analysis on previously reviewed, pre-edited (by the Air Force) material, of which they only read summaries.

One can clearly see how it would just appear as though the Air Force did it that way in order to save these individuals the time and effort it would take to go back over all of the old material. They had a time mandate, after all. But seriously, it should be noted that whether it was just coincidence and or just convenient, it is a great example of how to retain complete control over a subject, as the truth was obviously being manipulated by the Air Force, in order to make it appear as though they had solved all of these Unknown cases when in fact they had not. Those who control the flow of data control the “truth”.

The bottom line in this Eastern Airlines case is that the idea that what these two pilots witnessed that day could have possibly been a space-ship, or any other strange aerial ship, was un-acceptable, and simply discarded!

Chapter Two: Project SIGN: Ghost Rockets and Our First Casualties

By December 30, 1947, Project: Saucer was beginning to be called Project: SIGN, as per the letter from the Deputy Chief of Staff, Material, USAF entitled: “Flying Disks”. As 1947 was coming to a close, the Air Force was probably wishing that the flying discs would vanish as quickly as they had seemed to arrive. Unfortunately, this was not the case. In fact, in January 1948, a terribly momentous disaster was looming, which took everyone by surprise, and set a new course for the UFO Program.

After being asked to investigate a UFO, the flight leader of a group of P-51 Mustangs was lost. He reported to the tower that he was going in for a better look, and all contact with him ceased from that point on. According to his wing-man, he disappeared right after this statement was made. The documents reproduced on the following two pages are from the official investigation of the incident. They should clear up some of the basic facts. They consist of a transcript of interviews with the other pilots and wing-men regarding the radio transmissions describing the object in question, and Captain Mantell’s reports of it. The document that follows the transcript is from the main page of the synopsis of the case. It shows us some interesting concepts to consider. Though it is true that the documents do not say that Captain Mantell was shot down by some other-worldly invader, but it doesn’t necessarily say that he was chasing a balloon, either.

Captain Mantell was an experienced pilot, if not perhaps a bit over-confident, based on his wing-man’s testimony. He had been honed by several different successful missions, during World War II, though according to research conducted by Kevin Randle, he had only recently begun his career with the P-51 Mustang. Even if one takes into account his possible newness with the P-51, he made a concise, but fateful decision to break with his wing-man in pursuit of the object in question, and no matter what anyone else has to say on the matter, the record is very clear about two things:

1. Captain Mantell had the object in his sight, and said it was “tremendous in size…”

2. he reported the object’s speed, several times, and these numbers are verified with other pilots reports of radio transmissions

As per Captain Gary Carter’s testimony, Mantel seems to be aware that he is not equipped with Oxygen, as the quote: “going to 20,000 ft. and if no closer will abandon chase” seems to suggest this fact. The summary reads:

“At first the flight leader reported it high and about one-half his speed at ’12-o’clock’. Shortly thereafter the flight leader reported it at about his speed and later said he was closing in to take a good look. This was the last message from NG869, the flight leader. NG800 shortly thereafter reported NG869 disappeared…”
“From message transmitted by the formation it is estimated the flight leader was at 18 to 20 thousand feet wide formation when the flight leader NG869 disappeared”

In other words, to everyone there, who witnessed what was possible to witness, he disappeared as soon as he pulled up to investigate, and said he was, ”closing in”. The witnesses who were on the ground reported seeing his plane explode in the air. There was no fire as it fell -nor did it burn while on the ground. The plane fell, in pieces, on a farm near Franklin, Kentucky. Captain Mantell was found still strapped in the pilot seat of F-51#NG869, and the canopy was in the locked position. There is certainly no way to be sure of knowing what happened to Captain Mantell, but one thing is for certain: he wasn’t chasing a balloon, because a balloon would not be traveling at 180 miles per hour. If it was that big of a balloon, to be seen from as many places as it was seen from the ground, which included from other states, it would have had to have been absolutely, enormously, huge! It would have dwarfed any other known balloon, including the secret “Sky-Hook”, and “Mogul” balloons.

There is more to this story, I admit. Other sightings, and testimony presented by others to show he was killed as a result of oxygen starvation. This I cannot argue with, only that it does not appear that he was chasing a balloon. The balloon was in sight, by others who knew they were looking at a balloon. It was clocked at 10 mph, and it was at 20,000 ft.

As stated previously in this report, the recovery of some type of other-worldly device would have been handled, most likely, by a group like the Joint Research Development Board (JRDB). What a strange coincidence that the date of the publication of both Dr. Zohn’s sighting of a missile of the likes he had never “studied” before, at White Sands, and the reported recovery of the Roswell device, near Corona, were both July the 8th, 1947, the very date in which the JRDB assigned the Army committee in question, with Fort Bliss at the Helm, over-seeing the range, in New Mexico.

As late as October 24th, murmurings about the incident continued, hinting at a much deeper interest in the case, proving that something was indeed going on, and different components of the military wanted to be kept appraised of the situation. For instance, the document of the 24th reads, “…Subject: Crash of Unidentified Flaming Object To: Commanding General, Air Material Command Wright Field, Dayton Ohio Attention: TSNLI 1. Reference is made to your message TSNAD-10-2, 14 October 1947, and TSNAD-10-3, 17 October 1947, and letter, this headquarters, dated 20 October 1947, subject as above. 2. Forwarded herewith is a copy of message from Commanding General Fourth Army, containing additional information on the subject “

The references to the two TSNADs are to the early memos, in which General Homer, Commander of Fort Bliss, Texas, reported that the early reports from the Mexican garrison were that it was an errant V-2 rocket, but that General Homer, was still surveying, and would update. No other updates appear, but one of the requests for information came from Fort Sam Houston, which is the premier military medical base in the entire nation.

All of the memos that were available for me to read at the Project Blue Book Archives, dealing with this incident, concluded that it was a fiery missile, or meteor, approximately one meter long, and which brandished a blue, fiery tail. It crashed in Mexico, just West of Fabens, Texas, very close to a village known as Cassetta Reforma. Fears were raised that it could entangle the U.S. into sovereignty issues. Since it was initially deemed to be a meteor, based on evaluations by General Homer, it was left as such, and dropped, according to what is available in the files.

White Sands and Fort Bliss’s histories are important to all this, and it seems reasonable to quote a little more from the official history of the Proving Ground, i.e., The History of Cape Canaveral, Chapter 2:

“The Air Force was notified by the recently established Department of Defense on *December 30, 1947* that since a long range missile proving ground was intended to benefit the Army, Navy and Air Force, management of the project would be reassigned…The project was officially designated the Joint Long Range Proving Ground, with development responsibility granted to the Joint Long Range Proving Ground Group[Bobnote: Army controlled]. Although plans continued initially for the establishment of a missile range based in California, political problems arose in 1948. Although it would have been a suitable site very close to existing missile manufacturers, the California site had to be rejected when Mexican President Aleman refused to agree to allow missiles to fly over the Baja region. This was largely a result of bad timing, since a wayward V-2 rocket launched from White Sands, New Mexico had recently crashed near Juarez, Mexico.”

Two things stand out to me:

1. It was proven early on, with documentation provided by the
American military, that the incident was not due to an an errant V-2 rocket

2. If it truly had been a meteor, the question is respectfully made as to the details of the meteor itself. Where are the official samples from
“the fall”, and the stories about the meteorologists who went there,and who now study them?

On October the 13th another strange “fiery missile” was seen in Manitoba, Canada, heading southeast at a terrific rate of speed. It then was reported to have burst into a blue, forward leaning fiery flare, but it made no sound. But the day before that, an incident was reported through secure channels relating to the possible crash of one of them, as this quote from one of the formerly classified memo, dated the fourteenth, records:
“Chief of Staff, United States Air Force: ‘REQUEST ALL AVAILABLE INFORMATION REGARDING UNIDENTIFIED FLAMING OBJECT REPORTED TO HAVE CRASHED INTO THE SAMALAYUCA MOUNTAINS OF MEXICO AT APPROXIMATELY 9:30 PM ON 12 OCTOBER 1947…’.”

An object seen by many in Mexico, as well as in Texas, was described as possibly metallic, with a blue flame shooting out of the rear. Immediately after seeing the object fly over, an explosion was seen and heard in the distance, which was assumed to be the impact. A flurry of interest became evident, in the documented record, not unlike a bee-hive that had just been poked by a bear. One would think that the mystery object would have been quickly identified, either as a rocket gone astray, or as a meteorite waiting for samples to be found and enjoyed by meteorologists around the world. On the 15th, a classified War Department Message was sent from the Commanding General, 4th Army, on the same subject: “COMGEMARMYFOUR …Reference previous unverified report of aerial object landing in Mexico opposite town of Fabens Tex, reports received this date from CG AAA GMC Branch Intelligence officer Ft Bliss Tex to the effect Mexican Garrison of Juarez still searching suspected area of impact.”

Fort Bliss was the location of the premiere missile research group, even as White Sands Proving Ground was taking shape as a viable place to test missiles. As far as the Army was concerned, the Commander of Fort Bliss was in charge of all activities for the growing range, which was made up of Holloman (now Air Force Base), White Sands and Fort Bliss.

The early days of the White Sands Proving Ground are a mix of troublesome quarreling between the Air Force and the Army, because the Commander, Fort Bliss, wanted to retain complete control over the whole range by controlling the committee which was in charge of it. This was all, coincidentally, taking place at the same time as the Roswell, and then the Mexico crashes occurred.

Almost immediately after the first accusations of “errant rocket” were uttered, White Sands, themselves investigated and provided the responses from the other bases, which showed that all tests were accounted for: “FROM HELMICK CO AAFLD ALAMOGORDO …LAUNCHED FROM THIS STA 8 OCT ANDRECOVERED IMMEDIATELY PD LAST MISSILE LAUNCHED BY WHITE SANDS PROVING GROUND WAS 9 OCT AND RECOVERED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY.”

Even though this was the case, and this information was offered to the Mexican government as proof that we didn’t loose another missile, an article appeared in the Mexican press, on the October 16th, with the headline: “…Flaming Missile Startles Texans, Crosses Border”. If it was just a case of the Mexican Government officials not trusting us, it might be a reasonable stance for them to take. It has been reported, in the historical accounts of the rocket program, that in May of 1947, a V-2 rocket test from White Sands Proving Ground (WSPG) had gone off-course badly, causing one of them to impact in Mexico.

This quote, taken from “The History of Cape Canaveral, Chapter 2, The Missile Range Takes Shape (1949-1958), Written and Edited by Cliff Lethbridge The U.S. Selects Cape Canaveral To Host A Missile Test Range, tells the tale:

“…The dangers of a missile range so close to populated areas would become painfully clear in May, 1947 when a V-2 rocket strayed to the south instead of heading north over the White Sands range. The missile flew directly over El Paso, Texas and eventually crashed into the Tepeyac Cemetery in Juarez, Mexico. The missile impact created a hole 50 feet wide by 30 feet deep. Although no one was injured, the U.S. government caused a minor international incident and had to settle damage claims, many of which were obviously embellished by the local residents. Thankfully, the quest for a new missile range had begun almost a year before this incident”

“…Responsibility for acquiring, building and equipping the selected missile range was assigned to the War Department by the Joint Research and Development Board on July 8, 1947.”

After reading through a certain number of the documents, now in the hands of the National Archives, it has become the Zohn case, and how it was handled by the Army, which set the stage for further contention between the Navy, and the Army, and Air Force, over the UFO issue. The reader will see this more clearly when 1948-49 is covered.

Strangely enough, the republishing of his story on the 8th, dovetailed with another story about a different, and now very famous event. Like Kenneth Arnold’s before it, it made headlines around the world, but unlike Arnold’s case, and Dr. Zohns’s, as well, it didn’t just deal with the sighting of a strange missile in the sky. It dealt with the crashing of one of them on a Ranch, in Corona, New Mexico. Also unlike the Arnold’s story before it, not a shred of information about it would remain in the, so-called “Blue Book” files.

Several photographs were taken of Air Force personnel, including Major Jesse Marcel, who was the Air Intelligence officer at Roswell Army Air field at the time, with what seems to be the shredded remains of some type of foil kite, or radar target.

What was everybody getting so excited about, one might ask? The photos show obviously mundane material, so why all the fuss? That question is truly representative of the rest of all of the doubts surrounding the whole affair. Having officers pose with well recognized pieces of material (in fact what any rancher, let alone any Air Combat Intelligence Officer, would never mistake for something like a flying saucer) made sure the story was “killed.”
In July of 1947, the flying saucer scare had become, for a brief moment, the crashed flying saucer scare.

It would be understandable, and very reasonable, for anyone to assume that the first “saucer” project, which was called, ironically, Saucer, investigated and retained information on this Roswell incident, yet, as unbelievable as it seems, the Air Force did not keep any records regarding this incident! They did not retain even the mundane press clippings! There should be pictures of the “balloon”, and Jesse Marcel, etc., but if you read through the documents given to the National Archives, and do a search for Jesse Marcel in that particular set of documents, you’ll come up short. Not that the Archives themselves don’t retain information on it, only that it wasn’t contained within the material given to them by the Air Force.

Marcel was never discharged or demoted because of this huge “mistake”. On the contrary, even though he supposedly mistook some foil for a flying saucer, he was later given high praise from superiors. Wouldn’t one think that this fact alone would embarrass the Air Force, and be reason enough for discipline? These types of glaring bumps in the proverbial road make it obvious that many questions remain unanswered in the case. These questions will, hopefully, be explored and vetted more thoroughly by other researchers who are on the case, as I type these words.

Another consideration, in my opinion, would be that if it really had been some type of other-worldly device, it would have been handled with an extremely tight, “need-to-know” kind of security classification. To do this, agencies create a compartmentalized infrastructure, so that one person or department does not know anything of the others. Ironically enough, this makes it even more likely that something is indeed being hidden from us. This type of set up is difficult to penetrate, and is the very security classifications system outlined for the Joint Research Development Board (JRDB), by Detlev Bronk, circa, 1947.

Sightings of the fast unknown flying missiles continued un-abated, and a few more of the examples from documents acquired via the Project Blue Book Archives should illustrate why the objects stood out so strongly. For example, one report was on an unidentified object or some type of high-speed jet aircraft, traveling an estimated 700-800 MPH, seen leaving a pronounced ‘contrail”, noticed by a citizen in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 8th or 9th , 1947. He promptly reported it to the Air Force, being greatly concerned:

“…I stepped from my car to observe more closely, as two things immediately troubled my mind—where the missile should have been, at the head of the steadily appearing trail, nothing was visible, or was too small to see.” “…the speed was startling, certainly between 400 and 1000 miles per hour, and I should estimate more precisely at from 700 to 800, still too fast for conventional types of aircraft. The trail the missile was leaving in its wake, may have been smoke, vapor from intense speed, or any unknown substance…3. Path of the strange missile is drawn on the attached map, and was seen by numerous people. At the local airport where I do some flying, a considerable number of inquiries were received as to its origin and identification. Name of airport: Sky Haven.”

The Air Force’s final assessment stated:

“…In everything except the course flown, the description given more answers to that of a fireball. The course indicated in this incident, however, appears almost fatal to such a hypothesis.”

Yeah...fatal if you think that meteors don’t usually alter their courses only to zip off in another direction, as this object reportedly did. To get the proper perspective of this case, one should first take note of a modern day jet aircraft as it traverses the sky. The plane is leaving a contrail behind it. The first thing you would notice, perhaps, is that, although the jet plane must be traveling at a fairly good rate of speed, certainly more than 300 mph, at the high altitude the plane is located, the plane does not give the impression of speed. On the contrary, it appears to be chugging along. Imagine yourself in 1947, making the above statement. It was traveling so fast, that the witness sensed the speed, declaring it to be around 700 mph. The Air Force admitted that the object’s actions (turning around and heading off in another direction) ruined the fireball hypothesis, but they labeled the event “meteoric” in the records anyway.
It should be noted that these very same “records” were given to experts later, and these same records were utilized in preparing their conclusions.

Chapter One: The beginnings of DSP, continued...

As the second of the two World Wars raged across the planet, unknown flying objects reemerged as an issue. Military records reveal a surprisingly large volume of these unknown lighted objects seen, and reported officially. By the summer of 1947 what we now refer to as UFOs burst –seemingly very suddenly- upon the scene. This also accompanied a rather extensive, and as of yet unprecedented, restructuring of the Defense Establishment, and the creation of an unheard of level of secrecy in the name of National Security.

It began to burn its hottest at the outset of the second Truman Administration, in 1948.

The President had assigned the task of bringing this whole aspect of consolidation of the services to the former Navy Secretary, newly appointed Secretary of Defense, James V. Forrestal, who died after a short illness the following year.

We were at the very beginning stages of our experiments with missiles and rocketry at the time these unknown flying objects showed up. Though we were being assisted in these experiments by several “former” Nazi scientists, it still took an extremely long period of time, devoted to research and development, to even take the rudimentary steps into the world of rockets, missiles, and earth satellite vehicles. The craft of unknown origin were being flown by someone, in a manner which seemed to defy common reason. Even if one argues that they were remotely guided, someone, someplace, was guiding them…to where? They would have had to “go” somewhere…so where did they go?

Kenneth Arnold had said he saw several strange aerial devices “skipping like saucers on a lake”, and traveling at a terrific rate of speed, that summer. He is referenced as being at the beginning of the soon to be arriving UFO flap of '47. The shiny half-moon type craft were spotted by him because of a bright flash of light. He also pointed out that the objects seemed to follow the contour of the mountainous terrain below – perfectly - as if they were all linked by an invisible chain.

His report made headlines around the world, and he submitted a drawing to Air Force investigators, showing their appearance.

In time, phrases such as “the summer of 1947…”, and “the events of that summer…” began to be used to describe the events of that period in historical documents, by those who wanted to avoid the subject of UFOs yet still discuss history of that period. Nothing they can do, or say, can erase the strange truth of what was really going on.

On July 7 a newspaper ran a story of a disc being sighted by a Navy rocket expert, who worked out at the White Sands Missile Range, in the state of New Mexico. The Washington D.C. newspaper, The Evening Star, had this to say, ”…An eyewitness account of a flight of a ‘flying saucer’ came today from a Naval Research rockets expert here as aircraft were alerted along the West Coast in the hope of locating one of the discs and solving the mystery. The rockets expert, Dr. C. J. Zohn, who disclosed today that he had spotted one of the speeding discs on a recent Navy mission to New Mexico, said it looked like no guided missile he had ever studied.

The news account continued with, “On the other hand, Lester Barlow, Internationally known explosives inventor, advanced the theory at Stamford, Conn., that the ‘flying saucers’ were probably radio-controlled flying missiles being tested in the West by military authorities…Government officials have denied any tests are being conducted that might answer to the mystery that has baffled the Nation since June 25. An Army spokesman said AAF believes ‘there’s something to this’ but is completely mystified as to just what.”

The story was reprinted on July the 8th, in still another paper. Dr. Zohn, and two other scientists, saw the “missile” near Whites Sands, New Mexico on June 29, 1947, five days after Kenneth Arnold’s sighting of silvery, skipping, horse-shoe-shaped objects. This Naval Research Laboratory missile specialist was certain that it wasn’t a test flight of anything that was of our design. In one of the interviews he said, “…It was traveling away from us at a uniform rate of speed,” he reported. “It was clearly visible and then suddenly, it wasn’t there. It didn’t go behind a mountain range. It simply disappeared.”

Interestingly, Dr. Zohn was quoted as saying that when he reported it Army officers, at the range, he “…drew only flashy-eyed stares.”

“The question of the ability of large astronomical observatories detecting any unusual objects with any of their telescopes or meteor cameras was brought up. It was agreed that their chances of observing an object at random was low, unless they knew of its presence and directed their equipment toward it. This was very interesting because some people have had the theory that no unusual objects could exist because they would have been detected by observatories. In the future, cameras, professionally termed “patrol cameras”, will be developed that can detect such objects, but this development is not contemplated in the near future.”

An overwhelming amount of evidence establishes that we have been, and are probably still being visited, by some form of intelligent, non-human, beings. The documents available in the National Archives bear out that the “authorities” have been aware of this since at least 1953, that is, the confirmation of this viewpoint. In reality, it must be said that this same documentation also hints at a much earlier timeframe for this truth, possibly even as early as 1929. The abilities displayed by them have defied even the most skilled of our aero-technicians. Are “they” extra-terrestrials? After reviewing much of the documentation of the UFO story, this writer feels that only their reality can be confirmed, not their true origin. Without taking any one group or person’s religious stand one cannot really prove any particular thing about them, or who, or what they are.

However, any reader of the available evidence must see that their reality is the one thing that is not in question…whoever, or whatever they are.

It might not be possible to pinpoint the exact beginning of the air phenomenon, but the most noticeable change from the norm would have to have been regards to the incident of February 25, 1942, over Los Angeles, California. This is not to imply that other sighting reports, from as early as the 1800’s, or even earlier, are to be ignored. It is rather noting the lack of any confirmation of the reality of the objects, as being objects, at those junctures. With the Los Angels sighting, historical information has been gathered over the years proving the incident occurred, and was an unidentified Object under Intelligent Control. Thousand of rounds of anti-aircraft artillery had been expended on the unknown aero-craft, with no result.

The so-called balloon, or whatever device it was, hovered for so long that it ended up being over-illuminated by the floodlights for a brief period of time, thereby distorting the image that is seen in the famous photograph. According to eyewitness accounts, it then ambled off, unscathed into the darkness.

This particular copy of the now famous photograph, which was on the front page of the Los Angeles Times the next day, has been “embossed”. After the color values of the highlighted thing were compared, and separated, the now outlined object was pulled out of the flood lights and set it to the right, with colors reversed.

To me it reveals a shape similar to a horseshoe, or an elongated half-moon, but this, of course, does not mean that my take on its shape is the correct one. According to eyewitness testimony, it was more of an oval or saucer shape.
My opinion of its shape is based solely on what I did with the photograph, although there are certain witnesses who appear to have claimed that it had more of a horseshoe shape to it. Nobody, however, could really say that it doesn’t actually show an unknown object, because it does. None who claim the object was really a balloon can present any evidence which would stand up to scrutiny! It is known that some of the witnesses to this event heard the impact of rounds fired at it. The craft remained intact, and so say some witnesses, departed the area of its own accord.

The historical record of this incident is easily available from many sources. It reveals several days of suspected sabotage, enemy submarine activity, and mysterious unknown plane formations reportedly seen by witnesses on the ground, which were said to be flying at high altitudes, and were presumed to be bombers. The sightings of bombers seems highly unlikely, as no enemy bomber at that point in history could have been flying over our skies without some landing area close by.

When all is said and done, this still unexplained event, which had been witnessed by many people, stands out clearly in front of the noisy background of historical events of its day, as a classic UFO case.

For this researcher, the more important aspect of this case was that it was the first “in-public” UFO case that seemed to be sending a clear message about our un-preparedness in the category of Air Defense, and it was only the herald of many strange things to come.

Music is Still a Big Part of Me

I've been busy with other projects for some time now, and haven't had time to update this web log.

Many, many years ago I was all about music. It was all I concentrated on, pretty-much. As I got older, and had a family, and a steady job, it became more, and more difficult to do.

Currently, I have been working on some new tunes. I purchased Music Creator 4, from Sonar (Cakewalk), and have been using it to clean up and finish a couple of songs, and also work on some new ones. The lyrics of two of them were co-written by my brother. It's the first time we have actually written together from scratch, like that, and I think they turned out nicely. In the past, when we would team up, we would usually come with each our separate ideas , and then find ways to combine them.

From the cakewalk forums I found out about, and then joined, Soundclick's music service, and have been extremely excited about what they offer.

The absurdity of it all!

In 1958, the Air Force was handling genuine UFO reports with the utmost seriousness, via Combat Intelligence, yet look at this quote from a report circa 1953:

"We don't take "flying saucers" too seriously either, but we do take the problem of Unidentified Flying Objects seriously. The definition of an Unidentified Flying object is any airborne object that by performance, aerodynamic characteristics or unusual features does not conform to any presently known type of aircraft or missile, or which cannot be identified as a known object or phenomenon. The mission of the Air defense command is such that you are in a position to be recipients of the best reports of unidentified flying objects. For that reason this briefing is being presented today...

...When the project was first started, it was classified as Top Secret. This is probably the reason for the rumors that the Air Force has Top Secret information on this subject; it does not. The only reason for the original classification was that when the project was first started the people on the project did not know what they were dealing with and, therefore, unknowingly put on this high classification...".

This report leaves the impression that they, by this time, knew what was going on, and that they knew what they "were dealing with"!

They did not!

This is revealed by the later documents, as late as 1958, when Combat Intelligence was in complete control, and they did NOT know who, or what, was in control of these aero-craft!!!

Combat Intelligence and UFOs

In 1949, the UFO program began to take an extremely serious turn, after several secret meetings held by several experts, where they decided that something real was going on which required serious investigation. In the documentation available, up to that point in time, the Navy (ONR) displayed seriousness, while on several occasions the Air Force officials seemed to be taking it all too lightly. After these meetings, this attitude changed significantly.

The UFO program (SIGN) was invigorated, and placed under the control of Air Force Combat Intelligence (Headquarters-USAF, also AF Intelligence-AFCIN), namely as AFCIN-4 Plan on UFOs, with oversight by AFCIN-X and X 1.

During this transformation programs such as UFO, Moondust, and Bluefly came into being. These programs were formed in order to secretly deal with capturing downed, possibly unfriendly* aero-craft of unknown origin, as well as other space objects in need of acquisition.
[*as per the evasive actions taken by some of these unknown aero-craft, when perued by Air Force interceptors]

I have purposely referred to HQ AF Intelligence as Combat Intelligence when referencing these UFO matters, because the different units acquired to assist in investigations were quick reaction, combat Intelligence Units, and the satellite programs which evolved from them are now utilized for Combat Intelligence.

The Air Force Intelligence Office (AFCIN), and their "over-all" UFO Program" -which enlisted all of the other services (including the CIA, and the Armed Forces Security Agency)is what later evolved into what we would now refer to as Air Combat Intelligence Command.

Generally, Combat Intelligence Command refers to the premiere Intelligence gathering group for real-time combat information. They keep the area of combat operations under surveillance, and report on changing conditions to the Major Commanders in the field, whether they are Air Force, Army, Navy, or Marine Corps Commanders. In the broadest application, this would apply to Major Command and the National Security Space operations. Today this includes data acquired from Naval ship-to-shore communications satellites like the UHF Follow-On military satellites (UFO), which are the follow-on systems for the current MILSTARS, which evolved out of the "Discoverer" program.

One can say, unequivocally, that all of the Defense Support Program (DSP) satellites can trace their beginnings to the early efforts of the likes of Joseph Kaplan, and George Valley. The "call-to-action" came from the meetings discussing Unknown Vehicle Impacts, in combination with the "Green Fireball" scare. This is when, and where, DSP was hatched. The term was first coined by Mr. Kaplan, and was actually known as the Detection, Surveillance, and Protection program (DSP).

The rise of Joint Army, Navy, Air regulation (JANAP) 146 came from the change in the attitude of the UFO program. This regulation was set in place to open communications channels for serious UFO reporting by military and civilian pilots. By declaring the word CERVIS, prior to the transmission, it would be understood that a serious Unknown Aerial Object report was forthcoming.

As you can see from this web site on Combat Intelligence http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/usaf/docs/aoc12af/part01.htm it is the vital link for combat commanders and their operations in any combat theater, be it Iraq, Afghanistan, or in the case of UFOs, even within the borders of the United States, which is referred to as the Zone of the Interior (ZI). My position is that even though project Blue Book was "closed" in 1969, the UFO program was not. Rather, it was simply absorbed into the common framework of the expected duties of the Air Force and ADC. Since the special groups, such as the 1006th AISS were strapped, it fell to every Commander of any Air Force Base to see to any investigating, of any nature, which would be required in any UFO case, on a case-by-case basis.

The documentation held by the Archives makes clear that the military held the UFO problem as one of great importance.
If it were not so, AFCIN would have never become involved in the first place.

Why We Can't Just Right-Off the "Alien Abduction" Scenario

Believe-it-or-not, researchers have plenty of reasons for not completely ignoring the so-called alien abduction stories, such as that of Betty, and Barney Hill.

Long before the 1960s, when the Hill's event is said to have occurred, there were hidden-from-the-public testimonies which set the abduction scenario into its "rightful" and logical place. High-level, and other trusted (or rather more trusted than the ordinary) individuals had set the stage for just such a theme.

So many of these sensitive witnesses were reporting close encounters with the ships, rather than just far-away glimpses, that it became step One-A. So One-A was gelling and then further investigations sowed possible, yes you might have guessed it, unaccounted for time, that the abduction scenario was a logical step toward a possible explanation of what happened during that un-accounted for period of time.

Was it simply unconsciousness?

Perhaps that, coupled with some sort of shock-induced memory lapse?

I can tell you somethings for a surety. The Hill's were not the only ones to report certain recurring images of the actual experience. These certain details over-lap with some other reports.

Two of which are:

1. the color blue

2. an apparent remembrance of what it was that had actually occurred, via extremely vivid, and highly-impacting-the-mind kind of dreams -shortly after (days?).

First, a sample dealing with number one.

Take the Travis Walton story, for instance (though not considered a high-level witness to most of the "skeptics"), the color blue shows up there, in their eyes, and uniforms.

There's Betty Andreasson's report of blue uniforms on the non-human entities.

Whitley Strieber once remembered blue eyed "grays".

I know of other reports referring to blue-eyed aliens.

From jackets worn by these so-called aliens, to the color of some of their eyes, the color of an impressive opal blue is left on the observer in several cases. This color is so impressive that it leaves a lasting imprint on their memories.

Number two is more self-explainitory -except to add this question:

All of this from a simple dream?

Not impossible, of course, but not final either, especially because it is coupled with some sort of "actually remembered-in-real-time" event, that they are seeing as being explained to them in the dreams.

For me, from what I have read, and heard, and seen, I suspect we should trust the dream-memories, just a little bit more than the ones retrieved while they are under hypnosis.

It Can Be Very Unsettling

Maybe I'm a little nutty to some, but I am certainly not anti-Air Force, or don't try to be. It's just that after viewing so much of their own documentation, it has begun to appear to me to be an act of silliness to deny what is now so obvious.

To me it is an uphill battle just to see it their way.

For instance, if you see anything written from an official capacity, the "party line", the message will be extreme skepticism, or at times even coupled with personal attacks on individuals and the veracity of witnesses.

The official stance, since the supposed closing of the UFO program in 1969, is that nothing is going on, or has ever been going on, and that there is no credible evidence, nor has there ever been credible evidence verifying the "popular belief" in Extra-Terrestrial visitation.

The documentation so quickly written off by them now, and which is their own documentation, shows exactly the opposite to be true.

To be clear, the documents available to all, in the National Archives, show that -especially between the years 1949, and 1952- our military and government agencies were operating under the assumption that some of these objects were extra-terrestrial, or non-terrestrial(implying that they are simply not limited to the Earth). The only other option left was that they were really from Earth, but have been, up to now, invisible to us.

To me that seems even more audacious than even saying they are Extra-Terrestrials.

Could there have been some unknown-before-then culture existing with us, on the planet, without our knowledge?

If some other "somebody" were flight-testing extreme aero-craft without contacting, or warning anyone else, in any way -especially not even after the fact- for that long of a period of time (several years), that would have to fall into the category of extreme negligence, to say the very least!

The documents given to the archive, by the Air Force (but dealing with all of the other services), are quite clear in their seriousness and the concern expressed with the phenomenon, in general, and the mood of concern is most evident, as an abrupt change even, in late 1949 -early 1950.

The Air Force documents show, unequivocally, that Donald Keyhoe never lied about anything he ever said. All of the information he relayed to us, through interviews, and books, and articles, and newsletters (if you were a member) were all absolutely
the truth. Time and said documentation have completely exonerated Mr. Keyhoe, as if any of us needed it to be proven, but there it is, even so.

The Air Force made continual claims that he was a showman, looking for big money in the UFO circuit. They were proved wrong, as verified in their own documentation of the UFO phenomena by several government agencies. Keyhoe was a lot more of a hero than a con man.

Here is an acceptable current view on the subject:

See? This is what I mean..."aircraft populating the skies"?

The real documentation shows us that some of the objects seen, by competent witnesses, were things akin to domino-shaped objects, which appeared to be crashing. Other competent witnesses saw high-speed, highly reflective, teardrop-shaped objects, which could evade our best jet interceptors by exiting, presumably, into outer-space. Whether or not Captain Mantell was really chasing a balloon, in 1948, he was killed, and all of these others were very aware of it. The fact is at least one of theirs had been lost trying to identify one of the unknown objects. They didn't take it lightly.

I don't want to seem like I'm talking bad about some writer, or that I'm anti anything, in particular, but the truth, which is easy to verify, has dispelled nearly everything this person writes in this paragraph. Maybe the key is to be found in the last sentence. The so-called Blue Book documents truly do provide an overwhelming amount of reasons to contemplate the Extra, or non-terrestrial, hypothesis. Without verification of some unknown, even now, ultra-secret aerospace programs to account for those sightings, especially those sightings which showed clearly evasion tactics being employed by them.

Update Follow-On (UFO)

This blog is my second attempt to pull together the most pertinent of facts which support the "missing" UFO/Air Defense historical connection. As part of this endeavor, I have read through as much of the Blue Book documents, from a variety of sources, but most noticeably from the Blue Book archive, that I could spare the time for. Since I have a family and a job, it meant lots of late nights, but I strongly felt it needed to be done. Yes, that makes me just another researcher, as opposed to an "investigator", but to put all of the Air Defense data into an acceptable, and an understandable format which shows the obvious connections with the UFO data, has been quite a chore...all I can muster, at this time. It takes most of my extra time as it it, and then some.

I guess I only say this because of some whining that has occurred in the UFO establishment, so-to-speak, from some well established UFO experts, about how it is so much easier for up-and-coming researchers, than it was for them. I say get over it. You either are in it because you want the truth to be known (as much as is reasonable -that is) or you just want to become "known" as an investigator.

The truth of the matter is that it would require both, working for the same goal. That should be what's important. Also, the only way to truly show the connections is to go over its history, and that has, up-to-now, been mostly ignored by all others.

The same time that SIGN was becoming GRUDGE is the same time that the experts, hired by the Air Force to advise them, were phasing what they were seeing into Air Defense programs, which, at the time, were NOT accepted by the Air Force leaders. They had viewed it all, up to about 1949, with the Soviet Union in mind. Something caused a radical swing from complacency, into a state of near emergency, by 1951. It is the same moment that the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and its Air Force expert counterparts were beginning to cry for the need to integrate the new Digital technology discoveries with Automatic Control systems for Air Defense.

Perhaps it was to further distance itself, visibly, from the UFO problem, or perhaps it was simply aesthetics, but the eventual program, borne from the term Semi-Automated Defensive Ground Environment (SADGE), was christened as the Semi-Automated Ground Environment (SAGE), without the "D". Other countries, who were molded by our success with this system, kept the "D" in their titles. In The Closed World, by Paul N. Edwards* (a comprehensive study of the rise of the closed world philosophy coupled with the creation of digital computers)page 107 of the paperback states:

" SAGE-Air Force project 416L-became the pattern for at least twenty-five other major military command-control systems of the late 1950s and early 1960s (and, subsequently, many more)... ...SAGE-like systems were also built for NATO (NADGE, the NATO Air Defense Ground Environment) and for Japan (BADGE, Base Air Defense Ground Environment)."

Boeing

When one realizes the years in question (1949-1952), coupled with the fact that the term was/is Defensive Ground Environment -DGE-then it is easier to see where I get "GR -UFO Defensive Ground Environment" for GRUDGE. The GR could be Global RADAR, or something else, but DGE has been proven to mean Defensive Ground Environment. In the documents turned over to the Archives, by the Air Force, the most notable thing in the material is the transition the UFO program undertook between 1949 and 1952.

After the October, 1949 meeting, at Los Alamos, the UFO program was over-hauled, and rebuilt from scratch. In the process of being rebuilt, the program attained Major Command (MAJCOM) status, and was placed under Air Force Combat Intelligence, where it began to take control of the "physical" UFO work. The head of GRUDGE carried the title 4E-4. GRUDGE was intended to reshape the UFO program into its proper Air Defense posturing, and its first task was to take all of the old SIGN files and re-group and categorize them all in an orderly way, so that the proper and helpful Combat Intelligence data might be retrieved.

One only has to ask oneself if they truly believe it would have ever reached MAJCOM status, under Combat Intelligence, if it were at all mundane in nature?

PART One : Giant Boomerangs

A mysterious aerial display was witnessed in the evening skies of Phoenix, Arizona on March 13, 1997, which has generally become known as the “Phoenix Lights”. There have actually been several reported sightings of this type of craft over the years. We will go through some of them for comparison here.

The Phoenix case can be broken down into two sightings categories:

1. An enormous flying caret, or boomerang-shaped object, appearing to be moving through the sky very slowly. It was seen to display very bright lights, and was witnessed banking at one point, giving the distinct impression that it was one body.

2. A string of lights which may, or may not have been small planes or flares, at any rate, they were far enough removed from the norm to stand out.

Many people say what they saw (and most of the videos seen since) were of perfectly symmetrical lights holding still over the city. Others swear that earlier in the evening a large boomerang-shaped object passed slowly over their homes and neighborhoods. The outcome of the bantering since has left one group believing in the military flares explanation while the other group remains resolute in saying that they beheld something much more akin to a giant boomerang, with a row of lights running along its edges, or “wings.” This description of a large boomerang, in its entirety and exactness, has been reported in several other places, and various times, since at least the year 1949. The first two cases dealing with sightings of boomerang-shaped objects which are already well known in UFOlogical circles are the Lubbock Lights group of sightings (August through September 1951), and the Hudson Valley UFO sightings (1981-85).

The term “Lubbock Lights” actually encompasses a series of incidents, which occurred from January through September of 1951. Some of these dealt with the sightings of giant flying-wing type aircraft.

On August 25, 1951, a security guard for Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, had reportedly sighted a similar craft. He had been interviewed by agents of Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) to give them the details of his sighting of a large flying-wing type craft, and in a Spot Intelligence Report, dated as 27 AUG 51, with distribution to (among others) Commanding General, Special Weapons Command (SWC)*, this witness was quoted as telling them that “…this aircraft was unusual in the following ways, there was no sound of motors or jets in fact there was no sound at all that I could hear. I could see no fuselage on this aircraft. The size I judged to be at least one and one half times as large as a B-36 and was shaped like a spread V with wings sloping back at an angle of about 15 degrees.”

This same object, or one very similar to it, was reportedly seen by three faculty members from the Texas Technological College, on the same day. Reports continued through September (more to come on this) Photos were taken by one of the witnesses which were analyzed.

These two particular photos are important in that they tend to verify the visual sighting of some type of flying-wedge, or flying-wing shaped object, as the blurring action, which is seen affecting the lights, helps to substantiate it. Every glowing spot streaked with the same intensity, and with the same style of stroke, with all tails moving in the same direction. This movement appears to be caused by camera movement, not vehicle movement, but the consistency, and uniformity of the streaks is unmistakable. Does this prove that this is a copy of a photograph taken of an extraterrestrial aero-craft? No of course not, but it is one of the many pieces of evidence, that when taken together tends to verify just such a possibility.

In the Lubbocks case, there were migratory birds witnessed by some, and their characteristics were easily spotted, even though they seemed to almost glow a white color. Each of these witnesses were certain in that they spotted birds. The question then comes down to whether the boomerang craft witnesses could have seen these same birds? Since none of us were actually there, at the time, then this answer to the mystery must remain possible, yet even the Air Force noted that it wasn’t very likely that the witnesses who are sure that they saw an actual craft would not have noticed the characteristic bobbing of the birds, and the noticeable squawking, etc., which accompanied them, and was easily seen and heard by those witnesses who knew they were birds when they saw them.

Reports of a similar craft came out of the Hudson Valley New York area, especially between 1981, and 1984. Although, again, made up of many separate sightings, which were made over a few years, certain of the sightings, which were documented in 1984, have birthed at least one book, and also was featured on one of the segments of the T.V. show, Unsolved Mysteries. These were sightings of a giant, silently moving boomerang.

The show was compelling, and the witnesses seemed very genuine, and sincere. The consensus has become a division of two, with those who believe it was the work of stunt planes on the one side, and those who say they know what they saw, and what they saw was not planes, it was one, solid boomerang shaped object. These particular Hudson Valley sightings fall into two general categories:

1. An actual craft, of boomerang-shape, made up of one solid piece, moving slowly, and at very low altitudes.

2. A string of lights, possibly attached to small planes, seen flying along in a V- formation. A slight buzzing sound is heard by some.

Like the Lubbocks Lights case, the proponents on either side cannot come to an agreement as to what they saw. The differences in their sightings appear at the time of the sightings themselves. For instance, the famous Lubbock Lights photographs don't appear to be of birds, yet there is no question that birds were also sighted.

Sightings of a craft described as a giant boomerang, or flying-wing, dates back to at least 1949. The similarities between all four of these stories are striking. The Air Force had kept a copy of the story from the Jackson, Mississippi Daily News, printed on Saturday, April 23, 1949, in the Blue Book files. Its headline read, “…a flying triangle was reported seen in the sky over Vicksburg (Virginia) last night.” (April 22, 1949)

The witness quoted in the story observed an object which appeared to him to be like “…a lighted triangle…shortly after midnight…when the object was sighted, it was within the city limits and approximately one and one-half (1-1/2) miles from the center of the city of Vicksburg…[the object was] ’milky looking’, like a fluorescent light, but not quite as bright”.

“…running down the outside edge of each side of the triangle was a row of lights…this object appeared to be supported by wings, but there was no evidence of any kind of propulsion, nor did he sight any type of stabilizers or antenna on this object…”.

Though the wings were not drawn in the characteristic 15 degree sweep described in the 1951 case, it is very similar. it also resembles the object both the witnesses to the March, 1997 incident, as well as those who saw the boomerang in Hudson Valley, New York, in the early1980s. In each of these cases, at least some of the witnesses are sure that what they saw was a solid, boomerang-shaped object, which was enormous in size. In at least one particular case, the craft was seen to pass in front of the moon. When this occurred, the object appeared almost fluid-like, and see-through, yellowish, instead of solid, and dark.

Interestingly, the 1949 sighting predated another new and strange phenomenon which came to be known as the “Green Fireball” phenomenon. These occurrences were of strange, bright-yellow-green fireballs, which began appearing frequently over sensitive military outposts. They became objects of great concern, in secret, as they had actually been building in intensity for the last year, or so. By that October, some of the most noted experts, from each of their respective fields, came together to discuss these incidents.

This meeting took place on October 27, 1949, at Los Alamos, New Mexico. It consisted of some of the most important individuals of the day, such as Joseph Kaplan (USAF/Scientific Advisory Board), Edward Teller (Assistant Director for Weapons Development, Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL), Fred Raines, Group Leader of T Division, of LASL, and Sidney Newburger, Jr, Chief, Security Operations Branch, Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). Twelve other experts joined with them, and they discussed these and other incidents of importance to Air Defense, and “after careful discussion it was concluded that: a. Real phenomena exist. b. A scientific project should be set up to conduct a well coordinated investigation.”

Project SIGN evolves

It was at this juncture that the UFO program began to be known as GRUDGE. UFO historical pieces often refer to the theme of General Cabell being upset that the UFO program was lax. He invigorated it, and it became GRUDGE.

My particular take on the meaning of GRUDGE being Ghost Rocket, or Global Rdar UFO Defensive Ground Environment is admittedly controversial, but I stand by it. Based on all of the evidence, this seems most reasonable. Respected historical figures, such as George Valley, of MIT, were very concerned, as were others, such as Dr. Joseph Kaplan, and Edward Teller, and who were definitely at the fore front of Air Defense.

The so-called Blue Book documents bear out that the “Valley Committee” had been thoroughly briefed on the UFO situation. These were the same people who spawned the digital era we know and love, today, in the name of Air Defense, and National Security.

Another Triangle

On September 20, 1950, a reported meteor was sighted from various places across the United States. It then is said to have impacted in a swampy area of Tennessee, after detonating with an enormous bang, generally over Murray, Kentucky.

Although the meteor was said to have been responsible for all of the UFO sightings that evening, during this meteoric event, several of the witnesses appear to have seen something other than a “normal” meteor. In particular, one witness, a pilot, for Continental Airlines, referred to as Captain Grave, said he witnessed “an unidentified object at 20,000 feet over Colorado Springs, Colorado” His description was much different than what others said they saw. Captain Grave said that “the object was triangular in shape, coloring was yellow, and was gliding along.”

N1 M successor?

A reasonable question for anyone to ask at this point is what experimental aerospace program could account for these sightings, and photographs taken of a giant flying-wing?

Vincent Burnelli was a big promoter of the "lifting-body" concept, from which we were to see the F-117 emerge. This concept was incorporated into the design of what we know today as the Space Shuttle, and also, was capitalized upon in the design of Northrop’s B-49 Flying-Wing, as well, which was being tested up until 1950.

According to a paper written by Richard M. Wood, and published in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics"...from 1920 to 1955 there were fifty-seven all-lifting aircraft developed.” The article continued, “….it is clear that Burnelli's commitment to achieving eventual success put him in the fore-front of this pursuit...the basic elements of the Burnelli design principle are just now being considered and utilized by the aeronautical community for a variety of vehicle classes that vary from personal air vehicles (PAVs) to jumbo transports". Mr. Wood continued with:”the interest in flying wings decreased significantly during the 1960s and 1970s as focus shifted from flight vehicle development to space vehicle development. The only exception to this trend was the brief activity in the 1950s directed at lifting-body/all-lifting vehicles that supported the design of space reentry vehicles… it is clear that Burnelli's contributions to the flying -wing program are the most extensive.”

Since Burnelli was that important to the flying-wing story, it is logical to check on his programs, to see if they relate. As you can see from this shot of a model of the advanced transport, it is must be considered in the attempts to explain these giant-flying-wing observations, but no known prototype accounts for the sightings. At the time of the sightings, this model was what they had, so it can hardly be considered further. The actual shape and size are not exact, either.

Another craft which comes close to the right shape would have be the WR-52, which was to be a space re-entry vehicle. At first it seems plausible, but the size of the strange object, and the length of time it was airborne, coupled with the fact that it left without anyone knowing where or when leave me in grave doubt. Test flights of this craft cannot be traced to the sightings in question.

Not even the XF-92 could have passed for this object, as it resembled more of what we would come to know as the F-102/106 Delta Dart. At any rate, it is fairly easy to see what it is not.

The YF-92 was known to have been flown on July 20, 1951, by Chuck Yeager, but not on the other dates in question, and it would not have shown the characteristics of the UFO in question. The wedge-shaped craft seen in 1949, 1950, and 1951, remain unknowns, possibly Extra-Terrestrial in origin, as there were no other known cultures to account for the technology.

It is absolutely undeniable that the military expended thousands of man-hours, and money, over an extended period of years, to attempt to identify these unidentified objects. Logic would dictate that if they were easy to explain experimental prototype aero-craft, after one encounter with one of them, with Wright Patterson AFB being made fully aware of their actual identity, that is, a prototype test plane, etc., why would we then expend further people, and even more money, over the next several years, risking valuable lives and equipment to continue to investigate what we already know?

Not all of the incidents reported in the Air Force files, for 1951, dealt with this boomerang shaped object. In fact, several sightings were of orbs and teardrop shaped objects, which would exit nearly straight up to evade Air Force jet interceptors. Speeds quoted were expressed in thousands of miles per hour, and that is from a stand-still.

The fact remains that there doesn’t appear to be an “experimental plane” example which would serve to explain away these sightings of giant boomerangs, or flying-wings.

This blog will present a proper history of Air Defense and it's connections to the UFO story.

To clear up any misconceptions that have persisted in this arena, the most complete compilation of the documents and names associated with each of the programs will be presented. The connection between UFOs and our country's Air Defense system is provable and logical.

As the reader will see, each successive wave of UFOs was greeted by an upsurge in interest in UFO detection and defense. These events shaped the modern digital world in which we now live, and take for granted, and is very culpable in the history of digital computing and the rise of computers in general.
